Newhall Estate is a stunning, historic venue set in the heart of Midlothian, surrounded by beautiful grounds, woodlands, and gardens. We host weddings, celebrations, and events throughout the year, offering guests an unforgettable experience in a truly unique setting. Our small, dedicated team takes pride in creating a welcoming atmosphere and delivering exceptional service. As we continue to grow, we're looking for a Caretaker to help us keep the Estate at its very best.
The Role
This is a varied and hands-on role where no two days are the same. The Caretaker will help look after the Estate's main function areas, support event set-up, and maintain the grounds around the house. From preparing spaces for weddings to ensuring the estate is safe, clean, and well-presented, you'll play a vital part in the success of our events and the guest experience.
Key Responsibilities
* Cleaning and maintaining main function areas, ensuring they are ready for events
* Moving, setting up, and storing event furniture and equipment
* Assisting with grounds maintenance near the house (tidying, sweeping, clearing outdoor areas)
* Supporting general caretaking tasks such as basic repairs, painting, and waste management
* Ensuring facilities are secure, safe, and well-presented at all times
* Helping the wider team with ad hoc tasks to support the smooth running of events
What We're Looking For
* Previous experience in a caretaker, facilities, or hospitality role preferred
* A practical, hands-on approach with a strong eye for detail
* Ability to work independently and as part of a small, supportive team
* Comfortable with physical tasks, including lifting and moving furniture
* Flexibility to work weekends and occasional evenings
* Experience with quad bikes or small machinery beneficial (training available)
* Driving licence desirable due to rural location
Hours & Pay
* 20–30 hours per week (rota includes weekends)
* Pay dependent on experience
