Learning Support Assistant – 1:1 Role (Non-Verbal Pupil) Location: Southampton Start Date: ASAP Full-Time Position (Mon–Fri, Term Time Only) Are you an experienced Learning Support Assistant with a passion for supporting children with additional needs? Teaching Personnel are working in partnership with a welcoming and inclusive primary school seeking a dedicated Learning Support Assistant to work 1:1 with a non-verbal pupil. This is a full-time role starting as soon as possible, with the potential for long-term placement for the right candidate. About the Role: Supporting a primary-aged child on a 1:1 basis who is non-verbal Implementing tailored strategies to encourage engagement and communication Working closely with the class teacher, SENCO, and outside professionals Using communication aids such as PECS, Makaton or AAC devices (training can be provided) Encouraging social development and emotional regulation through a patient and nurturing approach The Ideal Candidate Will Have: Proven experience supporting children with SEND, particularly those who are non-verbal A calm, empathetic, and consistent approach Strong communication and interpersonal skills A willingness to learn and adapt to the needs of the pupil Experience with alternative communication methods is desirable but not essential This is a fantastic opportunity to make a real difference in a child’s educational journey.
