Senior DevOps Engineer

We are recruiting on behalf of our client for an experienced and proactive Senior DevOps Engineer to join a dynamic and fast-paced technology-driven organisation. This is a high-impact role that offers the opportunity to lead critical infrastructure initiatives and contribute to modernising and optimising cloud-based systems.
This is a mainly office-based role with the primary location in Glasgow. While some flexibility for remote working may be possible, the successful candidate will be expected to work primarily on-site and travel occasionally across the UK. Key employment details include:
* Working hours:Monday to Friday, 9:00–17:30 (37.5 hours/week). Additional hours may be required depending on business needs. Time Off in Lieu (TOIL) or overtime will apply as appropriate.
* Travel requirement:A full, clean UK driving licence and access to a suitable vehicle are essential.
* Security clearance:Candidates must be eligible and willing to undergo and maintain DBS, NPPV Level 3, and HMPPS Cat A vetting. Failure to obtain or retain clearance may result in termination of employment.
About the Role
The Senior DevOps Engineer will play a central role in bridging the gap between software development and IT operations. You will be responsible for designing, implementing, and maintaining scalable cloud infrastructure, improving CI/CD pipelines, and introducing automation throughout the software development lifecycle.
You’ll work closely with development, QA, operations, and support teams to ensure high availability, performance, and security across platforms. In addition to leading cloud platform upgrades, you will develop and manage monitoring solutions, support incident resolution, and contribute to strategic planning and process improvements.
This position offers a strong blend of technical leadership and hands-on engineering in a high-visibility role.
Key Responsibilities
* Architect and maintain scalable, secure, cloud-based infrastructure (primarily Azure).
* Design and manage CI/CD pipelines and implement infrastructure-as-code.
* Lead cloud platform upgrades, ensuring minimal service disruption.
* Develop monitoring, alerting, and incident response systems.
* Automate operational tasks to improve system efficiency and reliability.
* Collaborate with cross-functional teams to align infrastructure with product needs.
* Act as an escalation point for complex technical issues.
* Create and maintain documentation and training materials.
* Mentor junior engineers and promote DevOps best practices.
* Ensure security and compliance across infrastructure.
Candidate Profile
Essential:
* Proven experience in a DevOps or infrastructure engineering role.
* Expertise with cloud platforms (especially Azure).
* Strong skills in CI/CD pipelines, scripting, and automation tools.
* Solid understanding of networking, firewalls, and security principles.
* Effective communicator with strong problem-solving abilities.
* Capable of working independently and managing competing priorities.
Desirable:
* Experience with advanced monitoring tools.
* Familiarity with containerisation, serverless, or microservices.
* Previous leadership or mentoring experience.
* Contributions to DevOps communities or technical publications.
Qualifications
* Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.
* Certifications in cloud technologies (e.g., Azure, GCP).
* Advanced DevOps or security certifications (desirable).
