About the role
Balfour Beatty has an exciting opportunity for a Planning Engineer to join our Power Transmission & Distribution business. This role involves delivering major infrastructure projects and supporting the UK’s energy network transformation.
* Location: Derby or Birmingham
* Business Unit: Power Transmission & Distribution – Utilities / DNO
* Travel: Mainly supporting projects in Birmingham (HS2), with regular site visits
* Smart Working: Flexible hybrid model, 2–3 days in office or on-site
Key Responsibilities
1. Ensure programme content complies with planning procedures and guidance.
2. Develop and agree on a logical sequence and methodology for tenders, ensuring efficient design, procurement, and construction strategies.
3. Produce planning deliverables, including programs, philosophies, presentations, and reports; generate Tender Programmes as required.
4. At contract stage, produce, manage, and maintain the Contract Programme following planning procedures under the guidance of the Planning/Project Lead.
5. Display and evaluate the project critical path, advise the team on results, and recommend corrective actions.
6. Maintain project baselines and manage change control processes.
7. Manage resources such as labour, equipment, and materials to meet project goals efficiently.
8. Oversee contracts with subcontractors and suppliers, monitor performance, and resolve issues.
9. Assist in producing project data and KPIs to track progress and inform decisions.

Experience
* Successful project planning and management using planning software such as P6/Asta
* Experience in stakeholder management and communication
* Background in construction or related sectors with transferable skills
