Job description
The Ministry of Defence Medal Office (MODMO) is part of Defence Business Services and is responsible for administering all MOD-related medallic recognition, as authorised by The Sovereign, to UK Service personnel, veterans, their families, MOD civilians and contractors.
MODMO�provides a range of services to its customer base including medal assessments, assisting with enquiries, and issuing physical medals. This includes medals for operational service from WW2 to current day operations, plus some WW1 and inter-war campaigns, together with long service and efficiency medals.
As part of this busy team, you will be required to provide support to the team leaders for the end-to-end process of the issuing of medals/awards; duties include;
3. Process incoming mail and book onto database, including sending letters of acknowledgement, request for further documentation or sending out application forms.
4. Liaise with external agencies and Other Government Departments regarding the retrieval of Service Documents, medal cards and other documentation,, Swadlincote and disclosure cells.
5. Accurately assess the entitlement of veterans, Serving personnel, their next of kin and MOD civilians for the area of expertise, Royal Air Force, Army and Royal Navy and provide timely and relevant correspondence concerning the outcome of the assessment where required.
6. Update the MODMO database and JPA as necessary for assessments and highlight issues and errors to Team Leader.
7. Dealing with letters, telephone and email enquiries from Service Personnel, veterans and their families regarding eligibility of the award.
8. Provide support to the Team Leader regarding input on Ministerial Correspondence and Treat Official subjects as well as provide input for FOI requests.
9. Provide support to the Stock, Engraving and Despatch area, ensuring medal inscriptions are checked at the approval stage, ensuring accuracy and confirming the correct type of award. Assist the team leader ensuring awards are despatched in accordance with KPI�s.
10. Provide statistical information to Line Manager on a weekly basis or as required.
11. Support wider DBS departments with cross pillar work transfers and additional duties (special projects).

12. A good understanding of IT as applications are processed through networked PC�s using bespoke databases and MS/Oracle based software packages.
13. Previous experience of working alongside the Military or an interest in military medal and historic British conflicts.
