Job Description:
Trainee Traffic Maintenance Engineer Oxfordshire, United Kingdom (On-site)
When you join our Engineering Team at Telent, you'll be empowered to innovate and drive common solutions, working closely with technical experts who are proud of the impact their work makes. Come join a high-performing team doing complex and critical work. Help build and keep the nation's critical infrastructure connected and protected 24/7.
Reporting into the Contract Manager, the Trainee Traffic Maintenance Engineer will join a talented team of Traffic Signals specialists in the Oxfordshire region. Due to growth and demand from our customer(s), we are in a position to grow our Traffic team in this region.
What you’ll do:
As a Trainee Traffic Maintenance Engineer, you will work closely with an experienced Traffic Engineer to troubleshoot, fix, maintain, and test a range of Traffic Signals / Traffic Lights and electrical equipment in and around Oxfordshire.
Training isn’t in a classroom; it is a healthy mix of ‘on the job’ learning, providing you with an opportunity to work towards an NVQ in Electrical Installations and Sector-based certifications such as ECS and the National Highways Sector Scheme (NHSS) Chapter 8.
Who you are:
You should have an interest in troubleshooting, fixing, testing, and maintaining Electrical equipment, with some exposure to electrical work—whether through outdoor lighting, CCTV, controllers, detection boxes, telecommunications/radio equipment, or related coursework/diplomas.
Key Requirements:
* Motivation and willingness to learn on the job and via online learning
* Previous experience of Electrical testing, maintenance, fixing or installing, or a holder of an Electrical course/diploma or similar
* Ability to problem solve and provide ideas—thinking outside the box and working through fault-finding instructions
* Full UK Driving Licence and residence in Oxfordshire
* Willingness to undertake a Drugs & Alcohol test for compliance
What we offer:
A career at Telent offers opportunities across many sectors, roles, technologies, and clients, allowing you to develop, learn new skills, and make an impact. We are growing and rely on our committed team to deliver.
We foster talent through our ongoing commitment to an inclusive culture that respects and values differences, celebrates diverse ideas, and supports everyone to thrive at work.
Additional benefits include:
* Company Van
* 34 days holiday including public holidays, with options to buy or sell days, or 26 days plus public holidays with buy/sell options
* Company pension scheme
* Family-friendly policies
* Occupational health support and wellbeing portal
* Discounts on cinema, restaurants, and shopping through Telent Reward scheme
