Job overview

We have an exciting opportunity for a rehabilitation-focused Senior Occupational Therapist to join our Inpatient Rehabilitation Service on Welney Ward, Princess of Wales Hospital, Ely.

This position involves working with patients on inpatient wards to support their discharge from hospital, offering holistic clinical assessment, rehabilitation, discharge planning, and applying specialist therapy knowledge.

Successful applicants will play a vital role in supporting patient flow through pathways, providing clinical skills and knowledge to the multidisciplinary team. The role offers flexibility, variety, and involvement in transforming our inpatient rehabilitation service. You will be supported by a band 7 clinical lead.

Main duties of the job

* Work as an autonomous practitioner within the integrated multi-professional team.
* Manage own caseload, undertake assessments of patients with complex and multiple pathologies using specialist clinical reasoning skills.
* Identify patient needs, set goals, and provide appropriate therapy interventions, including adaptive equipment, rehabilitation programmes, and minor adaptations in line with legislation.
* Ensure patient and carer participation in decision-making, providing support and education to peers, new staff, non-registered staff, and students.
* Accountable for a delegated caseload managed by Band 5 Therapists and Assistant Practitioners.
* Prioritize patient tasks according to clinical need and allocate or signpost appropriately, maintaining high standards of care.
* Work in various community settings within CPFT, including access and home visits.

* Provide specialist advice to the multidisciplinary team and others.
* Work within Trust and professional guidelines, understanding relevant legislation.
* Support service planning and delivery of high-quality care.

Person specification


Education/Qualifications

* Degree or equivalent (BSc, MSc, or Diploma) in OT.
* Current HCPC registration.
* Evidence of ongoing professional development.
* Willingness to undertake Fieldwork/Practice Educator qualification.
* Member of COT.


Experience

* Post-graduate clinical experience in various settings.
* Experience as a clinical supervisor.
* Knowledge of housing legislation, minor and major adaptations, or willingness to train.
* Community experience and equipment provision knowledge.
