Overview
Senior Technical Officer - AV Forensics role at Police Scotland. The Police Scotland Technical Support Unit (TSU) provides and maintains advanced and highly specialised technical services to meet the complex requirements of Operational Policing. Applications are invited from enthusiastic and experienced A/V Forensics engineering managers to join Police Scotland’s Technical Support Unit – Audio / Video Forensics section.
This role will provide strategic and technical leadership of TSU A/V Forensic teams and support the wider technical management team in the delivery of TSU operational and strategic priorities. They will oversee quality management, ensuring compliance and drive improvement. They will develop strategic partnerships internally and externally to continuously improve the force's capability. The role holder will be responsible for identifying technical capability gaps, commissioning research and development to exploit the opportunities of the digital age, and maintaining and enhancing capability to ensure we get the best from our people and the force's capital investment program. You will be a strong team player, self-motivated with a flexible approach to the delivery of time critical tactical policing requirements, providing clear direction through visible, approachable leadership and leading by example. Working as part of a technical management team, you will support surveillance and criminal investigations, whilst upholding Police Scotland’s code of ethics and values. This role will require an enhanced level of vetting.
Responsibilities
* Provide strategic and technical leadership of TSU A/V Forensic teams
* Support the wider technical management team in delivering TSU priorities
* Oversee quality management and drive compliance and improvement
* Develop strategic internal and external partnerships to improve capability
* Identify technical capability gaps and commission R&D to exploit digital-age opportunities
* Maintain and enhance capability to maximise people and capital investments
* Provide direction and leadership for time-critical policing requirements
* Support surveillance and criminal investigations while upholding ethics and values
* Conduct or commission complex technical reporting and present findings clearly
* Engage in policy guidance on legislative and procedural matters relating to A/V Forensics
Key Skills
* Very strong team leadership and management skills
* Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
* Ability to manage demanding workloads and resources in high-demand areas
* Willingness to work flexible hours and travel regionally and nationally
* Full UK driving license
* Experience in collating and providing Management Information
* On-call availability and ability to work outside normal hours as investigations require
* Financial management of the section including budgets and forecasts
* Policy implementation and guidance on legislative and procedural matters for A/V Forensics / CMP and TSU evidential handling
* Ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical audiences
* Ability to produce comprehensive and complex technical reports

This role will be Monday-Friday 0900-1700.
