CNC Vertical Miller

Salary: £35,000 – £36,500 (including shift allowance and potential bonus)
Hours: 37.5 per week, Double-Day Shift

The Role
As a CNC Vertical Miller, you will be responsible for setting and operating CNC machines to produce precision-engineered parts. You will ensure components are manufactured to the highest standards, on time, and to cost. Working as part of a collaborative production team, you will play a key role in maintaining a safe, efficient, and quality-driven workshop environment.
Key Responsibilities
Set and operate CNC Vertical Milling machines using supplied set-up sheets, tooling, fixtures, and Edgecam programmes.
Conduct in-cycle inspection of parts using micrometres, verniers, and CMM reports. Complete dimensional reports where required.
Take ownership for the quality, inspection, and finishing (de-burring/cleaning) of your work.
Follow “Work to List” priorities, ensuring accurate booking of production and non-productive hours.
Monitor machine performance to achieve estimated cycle times and productivity targets.
Provide feedback on CNC programs, tooling, and set-up sheets to improve efficiency and accuracy.
Support apprentices and share expertise within the team.
Uphold Health & Safety standards and promote a clean, organised (5S) working environment.
Communicate effectively during shift handovers to maintain smooth production flow.
About You
Essential Skills & Experience:
NVQ Level 2+ in Engineering (or apprenticeship trained).
Strong CNC production machining experience (manual and CNC).
Skilled in working with Duplex and Nickel Alloy materials.
Competent with metric conversions, drawings, and machine part inspections using gauges.
Desirable:
Experience running multiple machines.
Familiarity with Fanuc controllers.
Ability to edit CNC programs and use CMM for inspections.
Working Hours
Double Day Shift:
Early: Monday to Thursday 6:00am–2:00pm, Friday 6:00am–11:30am
Late: Monday to Thursday 2:00pm–10:00pm, Friday 11:30am–5:00pm
Salary & Benefits
£27,300 base + £7,705 shift allowance + up to £1,500 gainshare bonus (OTE: £35,000–£36,500).
Annual salary review (April).
25 days’ holiday + Bank Holidays (pro-rata in hours), plus Christmas shutdown.
