The Vacancy

WRc are actively recruiting for a Assistant Consultant which will provide a great development opportunity for the successful candidate to support growth in the WRc Waste & Resources business.

This is a full time (37 hrs pw) role based at our office in Swindon, and attendance at the office would be required to support professional development and delivery.

The role would span the team’s consultancy activities but would be focussed on the use of data programming to improve the presentation of data to our clients and identify opportunities for added value data analytics. In addition, the role would involve laboratory method development and improvement, support to our UK leading waste chemical speciation modelling.


Key Responsibilities

* Data processing, analysis, modelling and interpretive reporting.
* Managing and delivering specific tasks related to data analytics, improving data presentation to internal and external stakeholders.
* Ensure work outputs are accurate and meet the aims and objectives set out in the task brief.
* Carry out laboratory tasks and develop sample analysis plans and risk assessments and method statements (RAMS), where appropriate.
* Improvement and development of existing test methods and support in design of new procedures.
* Develop solutions and visual outputs to meet clients’ needs.
* Provide a support function to the development of Waste and Resources lab information management system (LIMS).
* Provide support, with appropriate training, to X-ray absorption spectroscopy (XAS) modelling as part of Waste and Resources’ wider speciation testing projects.


Person Specification

* A degree in a STEM discipline, preferably chemistry.
* Relevant work experience such as working in an analytical chemistry laboratory or as a process chemist in industry or an environmental consultancy.
* Good communication and engagement skills (both written and verbal, including social media).
* Able to define problems, collect and interpret data with strong IT skills, develop conclusions, and make recommendations in a consultancy report.
* Willingness and ability to take ownership of issues and seek team participation to achieve best solutions.
* Able to work flexibly on several projects at the same time, to accommodate changes in deadlines or priorities.
* A proven ability to work with multi-disciplinary teams including laboratory technicians, subject matter experts, environmental professionals and commercial functions (desirable).

* £28,500 to £35,000 depending on experience
