Overview

Child Support Worker - SEN Residential School/Children's Home in Lymington - Full-time - Temp to perm contract

Academics are recruiting on behalf of an Ofsted rated 'Outstanding' residential SEN school in between Lymington and Brockenhurst in the New Forest. All young people have an Education, Health, and Care Plan (EHCP) with their primary need being Autism and require support to access education, have difficulty initiating or limited social interactions and need support with organisation and problem solving, which can hamper independence. They may typically be working at or above age-related expectations or with moderate learning difficulties.

They are looking to appoint a number of experienced Child Support Workers to join them on a temp to perm contract. You will be required to help develop their independence skills, pursue hobbies and introduce new hobbies or any activities the young person would like to try, understand the wider community and help build relationships and make friends.

Responsibilities

* Help develop independence skills and support engagement in hobbies or activities the young person would like to try.
* Support understanding of the wider community and help build relationships and make friends.
* Be able to drive as there are no public transport links directly to the residential school and be able to drive a standard mini bus as part of the role, or be willing to.
* Shift patterns include weekends and bank holidays.
* Hours: full-time 40 hours per week preferred; part-time options available (32 or 24 hours per week).
* Shift types: Early 07:15–15:30; Late 15:00–22:30; Long day 07:15–22:15.
* Salary on contract: £13.68 per hour. On permanent contract: £13.12–£14.88 per hour, dependent on experience.
* Upon becoming permanent, you are required to complete a Level 3 RQF within two years of starting the role, supported by the school.

Qualifications and Requirements

* Although experience in care, residential, or an educational setting is preferable, candidates new to the sector with an empathetic and driven nature and a passion for supporting children with special educational needs will be considered.
* To be successful you will be a strong team player, confident and motivated, well organized. Patience and commitment are essential, but above all you should have a genuine desire to help others.
* If you have experience as a Support Worker, Residential Support Worker or Care Assistant and would like to apply, please do so using the link provided.
