Overview
Balfour Beatty is seeking an experienced Project Engineer (Cabling) to join our Power Transmission & Distribution (T&D) team, working on the EGL Project in Hull. This is a key role within the project leadership team, working closely alongside the Project Manager, Project Director and wider project team, with accountability for the successful delivery of cabling works from design through to handover. The role supports the successful delivery of the EGL project by providing strong engineering leadership and management across planning, design, delivery, monitoring, commissioning and close-out, ensuring all works are delivered safely, on time, within budget and to the required quality standards.
Responsibilities
* Lead and attend project reviews / project meetings
* Maintain accurate project records (progress, daily diaries, etc.)
* Prepare internal/external reports and liaise with stakeholders
* Support reports to provide relevant information for informed, cost-effective decisions aligned with overall strategy
* Ensure scope and package assignment supports coordinated working
* Specify, understand, develop and implement technical information and drawings into delivery
* Understand and specify plant and equipment requirements
* Maintain a relentless focus on Zero Harm and stay up to date with changes in legislation
* Ensure the safety and welfare of the public, employees and the supply chain
* Carry out Safety & Environmental Tours and promote safety observations and initiatives
* Conduct and support Accident/Incident Investigations
* Monitor effectiveness of the H&S Management System and implement improvements
* Write and review RAMS and accepting subcontractor RAMS
* Identify, raise and report risks and hazards
* Ensure sufficiency and competency of the workforce
* Understand, control and issue safety documentation
* Complete audits and set people to work
* Assist the Project Manager in leading risk/opportunity reviews, present the Risk Register and implement changes
* Log and escalate any unresolved issues at the delegated level
* Manage subcontractors, including monitoring attendance and progress, providing instruction and support as necessary
* Ensure procurement plans align with project plans; ensure material/resources/supply chain activities meet deadlines
* Manage expenditure in line with the budget and ensure efficient use of resources for cost control
* Identify elements for cost recovery from others
* Balance operational and commercial constraints in decision making
* Analyse, appraise and implement Change Events (CEs)
* Own the Budget and understand contract implications on commercial impact
* Manage commercial change
* Request plant and materials
Qualifications & Experience
* Desirable qualities: An organised, innovative and creative Project Engineer with knowledge and experience in commercial/project management communications
* Experience on projects with proficiency in commercial/project management communications
* Experience implementing safe systems of work
* Experience managing risks and change processes through a solutions-based approach to problem solving
* Good interpersonal skills to develop relationships at all levels, with ability to negotiate and influence
* Ability to discuss ideas and plans competently and with confidence
* Ability to communicate new concepts to technical and non-technical stakeholders
* Aware of and promote benefits of diversity and inclusion
* Demonstrated resilience and determination to succeed
* Proactively develop others, including junior team members
* Identify and drive personal development; proficient with Office 365
Role Attributes
* Holds or is working toward a formal qualification in construction/engineering or equivalent experience
* Holds or aims to work toward APM PFQ/PMQ
* Holds CSCS and SMSTS or equivalent
