Job Overview
Central and North West London NHS Foundation Trust (CNWL) seeks a highly motivated pharmacist with strong leadership skills to join the clinical mental health pharmacy team in Harrow. The role involves leading the delivery of advanced, comprehensive medicines management services for community mental health services, working collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams and contributing to policy and procedure development at both local and Trust-wide levels.
Responsibilities
* Deliver comprehensive medicines management services to CNWL patients and the multidisciplinary treatment team.
* Provide input into local and Trust-wide pharmaceutical policy and procedures.
* Coordinate with acute Trust pharmacy staff to support effective dispensing and supply.
* Deputise for the Lead Pharmacist in their absence and assume agreed management responsibilities.
* Lead clinical supervision and continuing professional development (CPD) for Band 6/7 pharmacists.
* Manage referrals within the multidisciplinary team and pharmacy department.
* Offer clinical pharmacy input at ward level and to community mental health teams.
* Review prescriptions for accuracy, legality, and potential problems; identify risks and report medication errors.
* Ensure safe and appropriate use of medicines, including monitoring for adverse effects and facilitating patient understanding of medication purpose.
* Plan patient discharge medication needs and support transcription of dispensing requests.
* Advocate for clinical practice improvement, including auditing, quality improvement projects and evidence-based literature appraisal.
* Encourage and support the development of specialist pharmacists through mentorship and training.
* Represent CNWL policies on medicines in directorate and local care quality group meetings.
Qualifications
Education and Qualifications - Essential
* Master’s Degree in Pharmacy (or equivalent) with pre‑registration training.
* Registration with the General Pharmaceutical Council.
* Post‑Graduate Certificate in Psychiatric Therapeutics.
* Post‑Graduate Diploma in General Clinical Pharmacy (or in progress).
Education and Qualifications - Desirable
* Accredited Membership of RPS Faculty or Credentialed Membership of the College of Mental Health Pharmacy.
* Member of the Royal Pharmaceutical Society.
* Non‑medical prescriber or working towards one.
* Post‑Graduate Diploma in General Clinical Pharmacy (or in progress).
Experience
Essential Experience
* Ability to recommend, substantiate and communicate therapeutic options to patients, carers and clinical staff.
* Experience in mentorship, training and line management of staff.
* Post‑registration training relevant to hospital pharmacy, particularly in clinical mental health pharmacy services.
* Experience handling complex medicines information queries, clinical reviews and tailored medication plans.
* Experience undertaking clinical auditor QI projects.
Desirable Experience
* Staff management experience (recruitment, appraisal, training, leadership).
* Experience providing clinical mental health services.
* Monitoring and advising on drug expenditure.
* Practice in acute hospital or community health services and/or integrated care settings.
* Contributions to research.
