Senior PBR Material Artist – 8K Seamless Charred Timber Texture Creation (Architectural Use)
Project Description
We are a New Zealand–based timber finishing company developing a premium library of architectural surface materials.
We require an experienced PBR Material Artist to convert high-resolution real-world photographs of charred and charred-brushed timber into fully seamless, production-ready 8K PBR materials.
This is not a game prop or decorative asset.
The material must hold up in high-end architectural visualisation and large-scale displacement use.
Scope of Work (Initial Milestone)
Create one fully tileable 8K master material from supplied RAW photographs.
Deliverables must include:
Albedo (Base Color)
Normal
Roughness
Height / Displacement (true depth, not fake contrast bump)
Ambient Occlusion
Seamless tiling in both directions
No visible repetition at architectural scale
Clean, production-ready file organisation
If quality is approved, this will expand to a series (3–11 materials).
Important Technical Requirements
Must be built in Substance 3D Designer (node-based workflow preferred)
Demonstrated experience creating tileable materials from real scans
Strong understanding of:
Height reconstruction
Fibre depth realism
Roughness variation control
Removing lighting baked into photography
Experience in architectural visualisation materials is highly preferred
8K workflow capability required

This role is strictly material-focused.
