Position: Surveyor / Estimator
Reports to: Projects Director
Contract Type: Full-time, permanent (including probation period)
Salary: £40,000 – £50,000 per annum
Location: Croydon area (office-based, with site visits as required)
Introduction
An established commercial design and build contractor is seeking an experienced Commercial Fit-Out Surveyor/Estimator to join their projects team.
This role has arisen due to continued growth and an increase in project workload across a range of sectors, including hospitality, education, and corporate environments.
Role Overview
The company undertakes restaurant and commercial fit-out contracts from concept to completion.
The Surveyor/Estimator will be responsible for developing detailed scopes of work and accurate cost estimates for the finishes and M&E elements of each project.
Key Responsibilities
Prepare detailed scopes of work and cost estimates for:
Site safety and preliminaries
Demolition and partition works
Joinery and wall finishes
Flooring and ceiling finishes
Electrical, lighting, HVAC, and plumbing systems
Site supervision and other fit-out-related works (excluding catering equipment)
Conduct site surveys and review drawings and photographs to develop costed proposals.
Liaise closely with the Projects Director and project management team to coordinate building and fit-out activities.
Source and research materials and suppliers as required.
Collaborate with in-house and subcontracted building teams to confirm accurate pricing and scope alignment.
Develop and implement a structured system for pricing and cost management, including potential introduction of a specialised IT system.
Produce professional, detailed cost presentations for client approval.
Support project scheduling and programming to ensure successful contract delivery.
Assist the compliance team with H&S documentation and site safety coordination.
Interpret technical drawings and coordinate with the design team on detailed finishes and specifications.
Essential Requirements
Right to work in the UK
Several years of experience in commercial building works and fit-out projects
Strong practical and technical knowledge gained on-site
Familiarity with building control procedures
Excellent attention to detail and organisational skills
Strong customer focus and interpersonal abilities
Proficient in Microsoft Office and general computer use
Full UK driving licence
Flexible and proactive approach
Based within one hour’s commute of the Croydon area
