Senior Mechanical Engineer – Aerospace & Defence
Location: Basildon (Hybrid – ~4 days on-site)
Rate: £70.00 per hour
Hours: 37 Hours per week
Security Clearance: SC Cleared (Sole UK National)
Contract Type: Temporary contract until March 2026 with possibility of extension
Overview
An excellent opportunity for an experienced Senior Mechanical Engineer to join a high-profile Aerospace & Defence programme, supporting the development of next-generation Missile Seeker systems.
You’ll contribute to the design and delivery of advanced electro-mechanical products within a multi-disciplinary engineering team.
Key Responsibilities
* Deliver high-quality mechanical design solutions to technical and international standards.
* Conduct detailed design work including calculations, tolerance studies, and drawing generation (BS8888 / GD&T).
* Create and maintain BoMs using Teamcenter PLM.
* Support design reviews and ensure on-time, on-budget delivery of solutions.
* Apply DfX principles across manufacturing, assembly, and testing stages.
Skills & Experience
* Degree or equivalent in Mechanical/Technical discipline.
* Strong background in electro-mechanical or EO product design.
* Proficient in PTC Creo 3D CAD.
* Experience with structural design, electrical grounding, and materials selection.
* Knowledge of jigs, fixtures, tooling, and cable harness design.
* Experience in Aerospace or Defence environments essential.
Desirable: First-pass thermal analysis capability.
Additional Information
* Full-time hybrid role (Basildon site).
* UK travel and occasional overnight stays may be required.
