Consultant – Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery, Head and Neck & TMJ
We wish to appoint a Consultant with a special interest in Head and Neck and TMJ to support the delivery of our cancer service across Head and Neck. The successful applicant will also offer general Oral & Maxillofacial services to the Trust and develop other clinically acceptable interests.
Geographical area and clinical setting
The post is based in the 3 B's area (Bolton, Burnley and Blackburn), which services a population of approximately 1 million. In‑patient and trauma work is based at the Royal Blackburn Teaching Hospital; outpatient and day‑case surgery is carried out at all three hospital sites. The service is currently delivered by a team of eight Consultants in Maxillofacial Surgery, one of whom is part‑time, and this appointment represents an expansion of the consultant establishment.
Key responsibilities
* Deliver Head and Neck and TMJ surgical care across Royal Blackburn and Burnley General Hospital sites.
* Participate in the consultant on‑call rota.
* Develop a subspecialty interest that complements those of the existing consultants.
* Collaborate closely with the ENT Head and Neck team and work in the Lancashire & South Cumbria MDT.
* Support education, research, innovation and the development of novel services for patient benefit.
* Provide leadership within the expanding OMFS team and assist in maintaining a continuous, high‑quality cancer service.
Qualifications & requirements
* Qualified Oral & Maxillofacial Surgeon.
* Special interest and experience in Head and Neck and TMJ surgery.
* Compliance with the NHS safeguarding and DBS requirements (satisfactory DBS will be required for employment).
* Ability to demonstrate how you meet the essential criteria for the post.
Salary and working hours
The advertised salary is for full‑time hours; if the post is less than 37.5 hours per week the salary will be pro‑rata. New entrants to the NHS will normally commence on the first pay point of the relevant band.
