Overview
We are seeking an SLT in head and neck cancer (HANC). We will also consider an SLT who is confident, autonomous, skilled in dysphagia and communication management, with enthusiasm to specialise in HANC. Applicants with transferable skills from other clinical areas are welcome. A Band 6 to 7 development will be considered with a robust framework in place to support the successful candidate.
Successful applicants will be required to provide an immunisation and vaccination report from a UK occupational health provider or UK GP.
Main responsibilities
* Provide a high standard SLT service, assessing and advising on patient care & treatment as an autonomous practitioner, focusing on dysphagia and/or communication difficulties due to HANC.
* Independently manage a caseload of patients with HANC and complex needs using evidence-based, client-centred principles.
* Support the development of junior staff through case discussions, supervision and training dependant on experience.
* Collaborate as part of the multidisciplinary team, contribute to team discussions, participate in MDT meetings, ward rounds and family meetings as required.
* Contribute to the maintenance and development of the SLT service; undertake leadership and line management duties as required.
Job duties
* Undertake complex assessment of patients with dysphagia and/or communication difficulties; investigate, analyse skills and formulate individualized management plans and specialised programmes of care.
* Use expert clinical reasoning to interpret clinical and non-clinical data to diagnose and plan interventions, evaluate outcomes, reassess and develop discharge plans.
* Carry out instrumental assessment of dysphagia, depending on experience and competence.
* Manage patients who have undergone Surgical Voice Restoration and require management of laryngectomy speaking valves, depending on experience and competence.
* Evaluate patient progress, reassess and modify treatment plans as required.

Secondment will be considered for internal candidates. If successful after interview, you must obtain approval from your current line manager to accept the offer.

* Participate in health promotion activities within the department.
* Cover colleagues during absences or peak workloads; adhere to Trust cleanliness, hygiene and infection control standards.
* Take on designated roles that support departmental needs and provide SLT across sites as needed.
