Practice Nurse - Birmingham Division, Modality Partnership

We are seeking a skilled, compassionate, and experienced Qualified Practice Nurse to join the Birmingham Division of Modality Partnership on a part-time/full-time basis. This is far more than a traditional nursing role you will play a vital part in delivering high-quality, evidence-based paediatric care focusing on childhood immunisations, early intervention, and health promotion. The post holder will support improved child health outcomes, reduce GP workload, enhance safeguarding practice, and contribute to NHS priorities for preventative, community-based care.

Main duties of the job

This role focuses on the delivery of high-quality, evidence-based nursing care to deliver the national childhood immunisation programme in accordance with UKHSA, NHS, and local guidelines. Undertake child health checks and developmental assessments. Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate care for children with acute and long‑term conditions. Maintain accurate and timely clinical records using Modality‑approved systems. Promote immunisation uptake and address vaccine hesitancy. Identify and escalatesafeguarding concerns in line with policy. Work collaboratively within the multidisciplinary team. Contribute to audit and quality improvement activity. The role requires commitment, adaptability, and the ability to work resourcefully as part of a multidisciplinary team, ensuring safe, effective, and timely care in line with our CARE values.

Pre‑employment Requirements

Vaccinations: Mandatory vaccination evidence is required for this role, including Hepatitis B, MMR, and Varicella.

Person Specification


Qualifications

* Registered Nurse qualification with a minimum of two years post‑registration experience.
* At least one year of experience in General Practice or paediatric nursing.
* Experience implementing clinical guidelines and protocols.
* Experience in audit activity and quality improvement initiatives.
* Clinical supervision training and experience.


Knowledge

* Applied knowledge of the UK childhood immunisation programme and national guidance (UKHSA / NHS).
* Working knowledge of child development, common childhood conditions, and health needs.
* Sound understanding of safeguarding children legislation, local pathways, and professional responsibilities.
* Knowledge of infection prevention and control principles in a primary care setting.
* Understanding of clinical governance, accountability, and record keeping requirements within the NHS.
* In depth or specialist knowledge of paediatric or community child health services.
* Knowledge of QOF, public health targets, and immunisation performance monitoring.
* Awareness of service development and population health approaches in primary care.

* Ability to communicate effectively with children, parents, and carers, including managing concerns and anxiety.
* Skills to recognise, document, and elevate safeguarding concerns appropriately.
* Ability to work autonomously within scope of practice, recognising limitations and seeking advice when required.
* Ability to maintain accurate, contemporaneous electronic clinical records.
* Effective time management and prioritisation skills in a busy primary care environment.
* Ability to work collaboratively as part of a multidisciplinary team.
* Ability to provide clinical leadership or specialist advice to colleagues on paediatric care or immunisations.
* Experience contributing to audit, quality improvement, or service redesign.
* Ability to support or deliver training, supervision, or mentorship to other staff.
