A rare and exciting opportunity has arisen for a highly motivated individual to apply for a fixed term or secondment to the role of Motor Neurone Disease Clinical Nurse Specialist to cover maternity leave.

If you have knowledge and experience in neurological/respiratory disorders or palliative care then this opportunity may be for you.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will work to provide specialist nursing support, advice, education, and care to individuals diagnosed with MND who attend the Sheffield MND Care and Research Centre. They will carry continuing responsibility for the assessment of needs, development, implementation and evaluation of programmes of care and the setting of standards within the defined service group.

This vacancy is advertised on a fixed term contract basis for a period of a maximum of twelve months due to maternity leave of the substantive post holder. The fixed term contract status of the post holder will be reviewed in accordance with the Trust's legal obligations regarding fixed term contracts and statutory maternity provisions.

All existing NHS staff will only be considered on a secondment basis.

Please also note any secondment must first be agreed with your current line manager.

Qualifications

Essential criteria

1. Registered General Nurse with valid NMC registration
2. Advanced Diploma in Nursing or equivalent 1st degree, or working towards
3. To have completed the national practice assessor training or equivalent teaching and assessing qualification for those with ENB998.
4. Commitment to professional development and education

Desirable criteria

5. Evidence of leadership and management development
6. Recognised counselling skills certificate or willing to undertake

Experience

Essential criteria

7. Experience of complex patient management
8. Relevant experience with a proven interest in MND or other progressive conditions or palliative care
9. Proven management and leadership experience
10. Proven experience in the understanding of and communication with individuals with complex needs and patients who have life limiting conditions
11. Experience of effective time management and ability to prioritise own workload
12. Experience of working within safeguarding procedures

Desirable criteria

13. Experience of Neuromedicine or Neurorehabilitation
14. Experience of palliative care and end of life pathways
15. Experience of working in Primary Care /community setting
16. Audit and research experience

Further Training

Essential criteria

17. Ability to work autonomously as well as part of a multi-disciplinary team
18. Ability to manage change whilst maintaining standards
19. Strong leadership skills
20. Good IT and presentation skills

Desirable criteria

21. Knowledge of Motivational Interviewing and experience of using skills with patients
22. Training / experience in undertaking advanced Care Planning Discussions

Special Skills/Aptitudes

Essential criteria

23. Ability to work flexibly to meet needs of service
24. An ability to work under pressure acting as a role model for other health care professionals

Desirable criteria

25. Excellent communication skills within high pressured environments

26. Valid UK licence access to car that can be used for work purposes
