Job Title: Formulation Chemist

JOB PURPOSE
This roleis responsible forthe development and testing of new deodorant formulations for global or regional deployment.
Key Challenges of the role
1. Taking responsibility for planning and delivering thetechnology development andtesting programme for projectsand/or the longer-term technology roadmap,ensuring all testing is completed to meet network timings.
2. Addressing formulation ortechnologyconcerns as they occur, such as issues related to fragrance orstability.
3. High levelofpractical laboratory skillsisrequired.
RESPONSIBILITIES
4. Acts as the primary formulation contact at a global level, handling technical queries from various business areas including Regions, Marketing, Safety, Environmental & Regulatory Science (SERS), and Supply Chain. Communicates with multiple functional teams to help meet deadlines. Participates in technical team meetings as needed, with guidance provided by senior WL1 or WL2 staff.
5. Understand raw material functions and their roles in formulations. With senior WL1 guidance, adapt or create new formulas that meet product benefit and claim requirements within the formulation workstream.
6. Be able to formulate in autonomy by planning and executing technical testing, interpreting results, troubleshoot technical issues, generating support for claims, preparing reports, communicating results to the team, and contributing towardssavingsinitiatives.
7. Provide supporting documentation,, safety clearance, for prototype products for both internal and external testing, including consumer/claims testing.
8. Carry out relevant qualitative and quantitativetechnicaltesting, to ensure products are fit for market/ consumer testing including specialist testing whererequired.
9. Utilise Unilever software to createspecifications andrecipes thatare used for safety and regulatory clearance and used for setting specificationsfor implementation into factories.
10. To be aware of key competitors in specific to applicator area and develop formulationexpertiseto understand implications for Unilever products and brands. To be aware of tools for protecting intellectual property when reporting information.
11. Keep laboratory files/records, SOP’s, risk assessments, COSHH, etc. up to date. Design and implement new protocols and testing techniques with guidance as necessary from senior WL1’s.
12. Activelyparticipatein departmental initiatives, processes andmaintainhigh standardsof laboratory housekeeping and safety. Supports training and provides technical support for colleagues.
13. To prepare relevant documentation for laboratory technicians such as batch sheets, gassing sheets, results templates for capturing data in relevant Unilever software.
ALL ABOUT YOU
Education:Preferably degree level in Chemistry
Relevant experience: Some Laboratory experience in formulation.

14. Formulation Chemistry - Understanding of ingredients; ability tomodifyand manipulate formulations.Evaluate and understand interactions between ingredients within formulation/process/packthrough physical stability assessments.

19. Health & safety regulations and processes
20. Limited travel with overnight staysmaybe necessary

Recruitment Fraud
Cyber criminals advertise fake job adverts with prestigious employers as a way of stealing information or even defrauding individuals out of money.In the most sophisticated cases, they will set up fake websites, which have a similar address to companies like Unilever. They even conduct fake telephone interviews and then offer candidates a role with the proviso they pay a fee for background checks or to cover work visa costs. These types of attacks are becoming more common as more people are looking for employment in the economic climate.
How is Unilever tackling this?
Many of Unilever’s recruitment sites publish a warning to candidates about recruitment fraud. The Cyber Security team also proactively scan for signs of people setting up fake Unilever sites and act to close them down.
