Role Description
Our Places business area focuses on creating and managing sustainable places where people live, work, and thrive. In the role of BIM Manager, you will report directly to the BIM Team Leader, with a secondary reporting line to the Technical Director.
Leveraging your technical expertise and experience, you will apply advanced skills within a BIM environment, primarily supporting Defence & Local Government projects and more complex commissions as well as multi‑disciplinary projects.
You will collaborate with a UK‑wide team of engineers to deliver national and international projects spanning from small to very large in scale. Our portfolio includes Defence & Central Government, industrial, manufacturing, and technology sectors.
Role Accountabilities
- Develop effective working relationships with the Project Manager and with the client to ensure effective communication of progress and changes, as well as the resolution of issues.
- Manage the BIM process supported by the necessary tools in large scale projects, including multi‑stakeholders.
- Provide input to the development of the company’s BIM policies and strategies related to BIM.
- Implement and ensure compliance with company’s BIM policies and strategies within the team.
- Support the BIM Lead in adapting and refining strategies related to information management, quality assurance, process optimisation, and HR management to facilitate effective BIM implementation.
- Ensure compliance with Arcadis drafting and BIM standards and national drafting and BIM standards throughout all projects.
- Continuously review the optimal BIM related software and develop business cases for new investments.
Qualifications & Experience
- Proven experience leading project delivery in a BIM environment.
- Familiarity with implementing BIM accreditation/certification (ISO 19650) in a business setting.
- Experience establishing and managing ISO 19650‑compliant processes on projects.
- Ability to train and support team members in BIM processes, protocols, and tools.
- Capable of delivering work on time and within budget with minimal supervision.
- Experience in BIM coordination and management, including running coordination workshops to improve model quality.
- Up‑to‑date knowledge of industry standards.
- Proficient in key desktop applications, especially Autodesk tools (Revit, AutoCAD, Navisworks, Autodesk Construction Cloud (ACC)).
- Skilled in using software for basic engineering problem‑solving.
- Experience with BIM model federation, validation, quality audits, and clash detection using tools such as Navisworks Manage and Solibri Model Checker.
- Prior experience in design, drafting, modelling, and visualisation, including creating and editing BIM models.
- Ability to manage competing demands and demonstrate resilience.
- Experience implementing and managing Common Data Environments (CDEs) such as ACC and Bentley ProjectWise.
- Self‑motivated to develop and implement strategies, able to take responsibility and prioritise duties.
- Experience in supporting and implementing digital innovation.
- Experience of NBS BIM Toolkit and Uniclassification.
- Experience of information exchange formats such as COBie.
- Knowledge of Dynamo, script writing skills desirable.
- Experience of 4D/5D BIM applications and processes would be useful.
- Have a Degree and/or qualification in a relevant technical subject including elements of Modelling (HND/HNC or equivalent).
- Have achieved Engineering Technician status or equivalent through a recognised professional institution and may be looking to convert this to Incorporated status.
- Have substantial relevant (production) experience in design, drafting or engineering and BIM.
