Job Description

The Global Patient Solutions Regional Commercial Lead, CAMENA (Central Asia, Middle East, and North Africa), will be a pivotal leader responsible for advancing Gilead’s patient access and commercial growth across this highly complex and diverse region. This role is critical in supporting the development of health infrastructure and driving innovative access solutions, with a particular focus on making Project ATLAS successful by onboarding and establishing a high-performing distributor in North Africa. The region presents unique challenges and opportunities, requiring an exceptional strategic thinker with proven experience managing complex, multi-country environments.

This position reports to the Global Head, Distributors Markets, Global Patient Solutions and requires a deeply experienced professional capable of navigating political, economic, and cultural diversity to transform access and market development strategies effectively.

Main Responsibilities:

1. Lead the region with a strategic focus on North Africa, where establishing a successful distributor partnership under Project ATLAS will be a top priority. Drive the regional onboarding, development, and management of a distributor capable of navigating regulatory, supply chain, and market access complexities.

2. Develop and execute a comprehensive regional plan leveraging disease burden, economic drivers, and access gaps, with particular emphasis on key markets like Iran, Iraq, Lebanon, Kazakhstan, and North Africa.

3. Take ownership of the strategic and operational leadership to position Gilead as a trusted partner across the region, with the ability to influence and strengthen relationships with governments, payers, NGOs, and evolving health systems.

4. Build and nurture strong, high-impact partnerships with local governments, international organizations, and key stakeholders, especially in the context of North Africa’s key markets and healthcare systems.

5. Direct the onboarding and development of a new distributor in North Africa, ensuring alignment with Gilead’s objectives and establishing a foundation for sustainable growth. Oversee training, capacity building, and operational integration.

6. Manage P&L, budgets, and resource allocation for the entire CAMENA region, with a sharp focus on ensuring the success of North Africa’s strategic initiatives and broader regional targets.

7. Deepen relationships with existing distributor and licensee partners, optimizing contractual and operational performance to accelerate access, particularly in complex markets requiring tailored strategies.

8. Create tailored market access and business development strategies for HIV, HCV, HBV, and pipeline products in access-challenged markets, translating late-stage development into regional launches with strong local partnerships.

9. Lead cross-functional collaboration across Medical, Market Access, Regulatory, Commercial, and Supply Chain teams to develop aligned strategies and ensure seamless regional execution.

10. Lead internal and external communications efforts aimed at elevating Gilead’s role in resource-limited settings.

11. Ensure all activities comply with local regulations, ethical standards, and Gilead policies to uphold the company’s reputation and operational integrity.

Key Requirements:

12. Proven success in leading complex, multi-country pharmaceutical or biotech operations, with strong experience in North Africa and the Middle East. Demonstrated expertise in onboarding new distributors and managing stakeholder relationships.

13. Deep strategic and operational experience in market access, reimbursement, supply chain, and business development in resource-constrained markets.

14. Strong track record of driving transformative projects (such as Project ATLAS), creating successful distributor onboarding strategies, and building sustainable access models in challenging environments.

15. Excellent leadership skills with the ability to set a clear vision, inspire teams, and influence across multiple functions and regions.

16. Ability to navigate political, cultural, and regulatory complexities with agility and tact.

17. Experience working with governments, NGOs, and international organizations focused on healthcare access.

18. Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degrees (MBA, Master’s in Public Health, etc.) are preferred.

19. Fluency in English; proficiency in regional languages such as Arabic, Farsi, or French is highly advantageous.

20. Willingness to travel up to 60% across North Africa, Middle East, and Central Asia
