Job Title: Deputy Head of Media (PR & Communications Lead) – Maternity Cover

Contract: 12-Month Fixed Term (Part-Time – 28 hours per week)
Overview
Our client is seeking an experienced and strategic Deputy Head of Media to provide leadership and direction within a high-performing communications team. This maternity cover role offers the opportunity to shape media strategy, enhance organisational profile, and support impactful storytelling on a national and international scale.
You will operate in a fast-paced environment, managing reputational risk, identifying media opportunities, and supporting the delivery of high-quality communications that raise awareness and engagement.
Responsibilities
* Support the leadership and management of the media and communications function
* Develop and implement strategic media plans to enhance organisational visibility
* Provide expert advice on reputational risk management and media handling
* Identify and leverage media opportunities to promote organisational initiatives
* Build and maintain strong relationships with media contacts and stakeholders
* Oversee the creation of compelling content, including press releases and media statements
* Guide and support team members to deliver high-quality outputs
* Contribute to crisis communications and ensure effective response strategies
* Collaborate with internal teams to align messaging and communications objectives
Requirements
* Proven experience in media relations, PR, or communications leadership roles
* Strong people management and team leadership skills
* Excellent writing and editorial skills with attention to detail
* Strategic mindset with the ability to develop and execute communication plans
* Experience managing reputational risk and handling sensitive media issues
* Strong stakeholder engagement and influencing skills
* Proactive, creative, and able to work effectively in a fast-paced environment
Qualifications
* Relevant experience or qualification in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, or a related field
