About the Role
We are seeking an experienced and highly skilled First Assistant to join our Surgical Team in London. This ongoing role offers flexibility through both part-time and full-time options, providing an excellent work-life balance while contributing to a high-performing surgical environment.
As a key member of the theatre team, you will support surgeons, anaesthetists, and theatre staff, ensuring optimal patient safety, precision, and efficiency during surgical procedures.
Responsibilities
* Assist surgeons directly during operations, including handling instruments, suturing, and maintaining a clear surgical field.
* Prepare the operating theatre and instruments according to standard protocols.
* Uphold strict aseptic techniques and infection control standards.
* Aid in patient positioning and monitor vital signs throughout surgical procedures.
* Collaborate with the multidisciplinary team to anticipate and fulfil surgical requirements.
* Participate in pre-operative briefings and post-operative debriefings to ensure effective communication.
* Maintain accurate and timely records of all surgical procedures.
* Adhere to health, safety, and clinical governance guidelines.
* Provide guidance and mentorship to junior theatre staff and trainees when required.
Qualifications
* Proven experience as a Surgical First Assistant or scrub practitioner with relevant clinical qualifications.
* Comprehensive knowledge of surgical procedures, instruments, and sterile techniques.
* Excellent communication, teamwork, and resilience under pressure.
* Dedication to delivering the highest standards of patient care.
* Experience across multiple surgical specialties.
* Certification in advanced life support (ALS or BLS).
* Experience in mentoring or training junior theatre staff.
