Job summary
The post-holder will manage a caseload and deal with a wide range of health needs in a primary care setting, ensuring the highest standards of care for all registered and temporary patients.
Clinical Responsibilities
Make surgery, telephone, and home visits as per the practice timetable, checking and signing repeat prescriptions, and dealing with queries, paperwork and correspondence promptly.
Make professional, autonomous decisions in relation to presenting problems, whether self‑referenced or referred from other health care workers within the organisation.
Assess the health care needs of patients with undifferentiated and undiagnosed problems.
Screen patients for disease risk factors and early signs of illness.
Develop care plans for health in consultation with patients and in line with current practice disease‑management protocols.
Provide counselling and health education.
Admit or discharge patients to and from the caseload and refer to other care providers as appropriate.
Record clear and contemporaneous consultation notes to agreed standards.
Collect data for audit purposes.
Compile and issue computer‑generated acute and repeat prescriptions, avoiding hand‑written prescriptions whenever possible.
Prescribe in accordance with the practice prescribing formulary (or generically) whenever clinically appropriate.
Undertake all of the normal duties and responsibilities of a GP working in primary care.

Comply with all relevant practice policies and guidelines, e.g., prescribing, confidentiality, data protection, health and safety.
Commit to lifelong learning and audit to ensure evidence‑based best practice.
Contribute to evaluation, audit and clinical standard‑setting within the organisation.
Contribute to the development of computer‑based patient records, summarising patient records and read‑coding data.
Attend training and events organised by the practice or other agencies as appropriate.

Advise on specimen handling, PPE use and infection control procedures, both routine and extraordinary circumstances.
Maintain clean working environment and ensure proper disposal of sharps, waste and instruments.
Actively identify, report and correct health and safety hazards immediately.
Undertake periodic infection control training (minimum twice annually).
Demonstrate safeguarding and promote the welfare of children.

Qualifications – Essential
Full registration with GMC.
Ability to meet clinical commitments.
Clinical knowledge and expertise appropriate for providing GMS, including managing common medical emergencies.

Critical thinking within personal value framework.
Experience – Essential
Experience working in primary care.
Disclosure and Barring Service Check
