Casework Support Officer About the role The Casework Support Officer (CSO) will work closely with the Migration Justice Project’s Legal Officers and Caseworkers. Our Legal Officers and Caseworkers work hard to secure immigration status for migrants who have experienced forced migration. While immigration status can unlock entitlement to critical public services such as social security, housing and healthcare, in practice, we know that accessing these entitlements is not always straightforward. When a person is granted immigration status, there can be many more processes and barriers to navigate. These barriers can be particularly acute for Law Centre clients given the prevalence of trauma and vulnerability within our client group. The purpose of the CSO role is to ensure that a grant of immigration status results in long-term positive outcomes for clients. The CSO works closely with our Legal Officers / Caseworkers and Legal Executives to ensure that our most vulnerable clients receive the necessary casework support following the outcome of an immigration decision. CSO support is flexible and is tailored to individual needs. Examples of support the CSO may provide include: liaising with other service providers and obtaining consent to share evidence; making timely referrals to specialist services and, where necessary, accompanying our clients to appointments; providing further information and support throughout the refugee move-on journey; guidance on social security benefits such as Universal Credit and PIP; providing administrative assistance e.g. opening bank accounts, applying for Refugee Integration loan; providing immigration casework on non-regulated matters e.g. Refugee Travel Document, etc. The CSO role is a rewarding opportunity to support migrants to access the support they need to move forward in their lives.
