PGME Clinical Education Fellow – Paediatrics

The post is a one-year fixed-term contract based at the Great Western Hospital Swindon (GWH). It offers a unique opportunity for trainees interested in education, with a 50% focus on Paediatrics and 50% on Post Graduate Medical Education. The role includes involvement in simulation training.
This position is suitable for ST3 - ST5 level doctors, particularly those seeking further training in medical education as part of an Out of Programme Experience (OOPE) from their Specialist training. There is an opportunity to undertake a PG Certification in Clinical Education. Substantive NHS experience is required.
The post involves assisting the Director of Medical Education and relevant clinical specialties in designing, developing, delivering, and evaluating postgraduate training programs, including clinical skills, simulation, quality improvement, and trainee support.
Main duties of the job
1. Provision of clinical education for postgraduate trainees, including simulation and clinical skills training.
2. Participation in research projects or original work, aiming for peer-reviewed publications and presentations at national and international meetings.
3. Bedside and classroom teaching of postgraduate trainees across various specialties.
4. Coordination of postgraduate trainees' teaching opportunities.

Job responsibilities
1. Supporting clinical skills teaching and ward-based assessments.
2. Evaluating teaching effectiveness with relevant administrators.

4. Promoting and delivering simulation as an educational tool.
5. The role is divided equally between clinical care and educational activities.

Person Specification
Qualifications
* GMC Registration with a Licence to Practice.
* Eligible to work at ST3-ST5 at the time of appointment.
* Postgraduate courses or qualifications in medical education.
Experience
* Substantive NHS experience in Paediatrics.
* Experience teaching postgraduate medical residents.
* Experience with the ARCP process.
* Experience engaging with quality assessments like the GMC trainee survey and National Educational and Training Survey.
* Experience in Quality Improvement and audits.
* Experience using e-portfolios and appraisal systems.
* Representing the views of resident doctors.
Knowledge and Skills
* Sound clinical knowledge and judgment.
* Ability to prioritize clinical needs.
* Initial management of acutely ill patients.
* Excellent IT, conceptual, and analytical skills; innovative mindset.
* Interest in supporting doctors in training and medical education.
* Ability to design and deliver bedside teaching and simulation.
