The Opportunity

British Transport Police (BTP) is the national police force for the rail network throughout Great Britain. We are the ‘Guardians of the Railway,’ putting passenger safety at the heart of what we do. Our values are simply: We Care, We Do the Right Thing, We Strive to Be Better Every Day, We Are One BTP, and We Are Proud to Protect. Join us and help create an environment where we can all be our best every day.

We are offering a unique opportunity for an experienced Accredited Financial Investigator (AFI) to join our specialist Project Plume team — a nationally recognised, multi-agency initiative tackling cash-based money laundering investigations in the waste industry.

This role is a high‑impact position where the work will directly contribute to dismantling organised crime groups and protecting the UK’s financial and environmental systems. You will collaborate with partners such as the National Crime Agency, HMRC, Environment Agency, and the Joint Unit for Waste Crime, participating in joint operations and intelligence‑led investigations.

You’ll benefit from a supportive and forward‑thinking environment, with access to modern investigative tools and opportunities to develop your skills.

What You’ll Be Doing

* Lead cash‑based money laundering investigations in the waste industry as part of Project Plume.
* Prepare and present high‑quality evidential material in both criminal and civil courts.
* Collaborate with internal teams and external law enforcement and regulatory partners to develop intelligence and deliver joint operations.
* Provide support and advice to senior investigating officers on potential risks under POCA legislation, Data Protection and Human Rights for live enquiries, and gather evidence to support investigations.

What You’ll Bring To The Team

* Be a current accredited financial investigator with Part 2, Part 8 and Part 5 powers (or be within the NCA defined self‑suspension period that will enable immediate re‑accreditation with refresher courses/action plans).
* Pass the NPIA (now NCA) Accredited Financial Investigation Course.
* PIP level 2 or equivalent.
* Demonstrable experience in financial crime investigations, including money laundering and fraud.
* Strong working knowledge of POCA, PACE, CPIA, GDPR, and other relevant legislation and investigative procedures.

Additional Information

Applicants must be willing to travel to all Force areas when required.

What We Offer

* 28 days annual leave plus bank holidays, increasing to 30 days after 5 years.
* Family‑friendly policies, including up to 26 weeks paid maternity and adoption leave.
* Bespoke benefits platform and Blue Light Card access.
* Salary sacrifice options for cycles, home technology, gym membership, and electric vehicles.
* Access to the Transport Benevolent Fund for health, welfare, and financial support.
* Development opportunities, including fully funded apprenticeships.
* Excellent Pension scheme: BTP GPP Police Staff Pension Scheme, administered by Royal London.

Completed applications must be submitted by 11.59 pm, 9 June 2026.

We are committed to building a workforce where everyone feels they belong. We welcome applications from people of all backgrounds, identities and lived experiences. We are proud to be an inclusive employer and strive to create a workplace that is fair, respectful and accessible to all.
