Job summary Ofgem is Great Britains independent energy regulator. We have an exciting opportunity for a Senior Engineer to join our Delivery and Schemes directorate within Audit & Compliance. This is your chance to play a key role in supporting the delivery of renewable electricity schemes. Youll provide expert engineering and technical support across Ofgem, contributing to renewable electricity schemes through accreditation, compliance and audit processes. Your work will support robust, evidence-based decision-making and ensure schemes are delivered in line with their rules and obligations. In this role, you will provide high-quality and timely engineering advice on participant applications, amendments to accreditation, and compliance investigations. You will contribute engineering expertise to the development and reform of renewable electricity schemes and associated policy. Youll work with internal teams to translate technical engineering concepts into clear, practical advice for non-technical audiences, supporting decision-making across operations, compliance and policy. You will also design and deliver technical training to large and diverse audiences, building understanding of engineering requirements relevant to scheme delivery. Maintaining professional development will be important in this role, including staying up to date with changes to technical standards and advancements in renewable electricity technology impacting scheme delivery. Youll engage with external stakeholders, including government departments, industry bodies and scheme participants, and represent Ofgem at meetings, conferences and events, clearly communicating technical positions. Join us and help shape the future of energy in the UK. Job description You will be someone who: Is educated to degree level in a relevant engineering discipline or has equivalent industry experience. Has experience applying engineering expertise in an advisory or analytical capacity, particularly where complex electricity-related issues need to be interpreted and explained to others. Is able to translate technical engineering concepts into clear, practical advice for non-technical audiences, supporting decision-making across operations, compliance or policy. Has strong communication and influencing skills, with the ability to build understanding and confidence in engineering decisions across a wide range of stakeholders. Enjoys using engineering knowledge to support others and influence decisions. Has an interest in the energy sector and is motivated by achieving positive outcomes for consumers, supporting Ofgems role in delivering a fair, sustainable and secure net zero energy system. Contributes to a positive and inclusive working environment, valuing diversity of thought, experience and background while supporting colleagues to deliver high-quality outcomes. Delivery and Schemes (D&S) Ofgem delivers renewable energy schemes and social programmes on behalf of government this is done through the Delivery and Schemes Directorate (D&S). These schemes are varied covering renewable heat, renewable electricity, energy efficiency and fuel poverty collectively, they are worth 12bn a year. And crucially, these schemes are critical to hitting our Net Zero goals and providing support for households. Through our efforts, we ensure that both consumers and participants receive the necessary support without imposing undue costs on consumers and taxpayers. A crucial element of this is guaranteeing that payments made under government schemes are accessible to participating generators and installations that meet and continue to adhere to the rules and obligations of these schemes. The successful candidate will be deployed to support work in our Renewable Electricity Participant Compliance team (REPC) and Renewable Electricity Operations team. Key Responsibilities Responsible for providing high quality and timely engineering advice on Participant applications for (and amendments to) accreditation and compliance investigations under the Renewable Electricity schemes. Delivering training across D&S to large and diverse non-technical audiences, focused on engineering requirements relevant to renewable electricity scheme delivery (operations and compliance). Maintaining professional development, staying abreast of changes to technical standards and advancements in renewable electricity technology impacting scheme delivery. Key Outputs and Deliverables Provide technical expertise to support accreditation, audit, and compliance processes and decisions, ensuring outcomes are robust, evidence-based, and defensible. Contribute engineering expertise to the development and reform of renewable electricity schemes and associated policy. Design and deliver technical training to large and diverse non-technical audiences, building understanding of engineering requirements across D&S. Represent Ofgem at external meetings, conferences and events, clearly communicating Ofgems position on relevant technical issues.
