Role
This is a Field Interviewer role working for the Office for National Statistics via AMS. You will carry out official surveys to inform Government about the state of the nation. The role starts with 5 weeks of comprehensive training. It involves visiting sampled addresses to encourage survey participation and interviewing respondents in their homes. The role is not office-based and requires you to work within a roughly 40-mile radius of an allocated location. Work will be allocated to fit contracted hours within this area, so you should consider your home location relative to your chosen location.
Working Hours
The role offers flexible hours, broadly equivalent to 22 hours per week. Interviews must be conducted between 09:00 and 20:00, with potential for admin and travel time outside these hours. Interviewers will work mornings, afternoons, and evenings and are contracted to work Monday to Saturday.
Responsibilities
* Conduct official interviews with respondents in their homes and encourage survey participation.
* Plan, organise and manage your own workload with provided training and support.
* Transport equipment (laptop, survey materials) and, when needed, navigate stairs and walk between addresses.
* Travel within a 40-mile radius of the advertised location to reach respondents.
Requirements
* Live within a 10-mile radius of the location and be able to travel to addresses within 40 miles.
* Interviews between 09:00–20:00, with flexible hours across mornings, afternoons, and evenings; Saturdays may be required.
* Experience using a laptop and a smartphone.
* Self-disciplined, self-motivated, and able to work without supervision.
* Excellent verbal communication skills and enjoyment of meeting people.
* Have a broadband internet connection at home before starting.

* Full valid UK Driving Licence with car use for work purposes (including EU Nationals rights).

Selection Process
Assessment at application will consider work history, skills and experience, and a personal statement. Successful applicants will be invited to a video interview lasting 30–45 minutes. Be prepared to provide evidence during the interview and to discuss the required competencies.

Successful candidates must undergo Baseline Personnel Security Standard (BPSS) checks and a criminal record check.
