The Role
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Clinical Skills Lecturer Practitioner (Registered Nurse Adult Field) in Healthcare Education to join Aberystwyth University. Aberystwyth University is seeking to support the workforce and community needs of Mid-Wales by increasing opportunities for individuals to train and work in healthcare in their local area. The role involves jointly working with Local Health Boards and other key stakeholders to design and deliver professional health-related courses (at pre- and post-registration levels and Continuing Professional Development), with BSc degrees in pre-registration Adult Nursing and Mental Health Nursing (full time and part time), Return to Nursing Practice (Adult Field) programme, and Level 4 Certificate in Healthcare Studies. There are two posts available, each for 2 days per week (set days), allowing practitioners to continue their clinical practice.
This role supports the introduction of new Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) pathways and programmes through Health Education and Improvement Wales (HEIW). The first cohort of nursing students began studies in Aberystwyth in September 2022 and have progressed to registration as nurses.
The post holder will support the Principal Lead & Head of Healthcare Education to design and deliver new provision in clinical skills and simulation, working with the clinical skills lead and simulation lead for Level 4 programmes, pre-registration Adult Nursing, Mental Health Nursing degrees, and Return to Practice programmes. The programmes will be developed in English and Welsh.

What you’ll do

Main Duties & Responsibilities
* Teach on-site a wide range of topics related to healthcare for clinical skills and simulation as a member of the Healthcare Education teaching team in the adult field of nursing
* Act as module coordinator, manage modules and coordinate the work of colleagues in developing clinical skills and simulation activities
* Challenge thinking, foster debate and help students engage in critical discourse and rational thinking
* Collaborate with stakeholders, service users and academic colleagues on curriculum and module development and changes
* Actively seek opportunities to plan, design and deliver healthcare CPD to a variety of health professionals
* Ensure own professional knowledge and skills are up to date and meet revalidation requirements and maintain professional registration in the relevant part of the NMC register
* Work closely with the Clinical Skills Lead, Simulation Lead and the Clinical Skills & Simulation technician
* Act as an academic assessor where necessary and provide high-quality support to students and clinical staff in various practice learning environments
* Actively manage placement learning opportunities and capacity for nursing students
* Act in line with the NMC Code, upholding its values and principles
* Use the NMC Code to help students understand professional standards
* Act as a role model of professional behaviour and provide leadership for others
* Publish and share evidence of scholarship related to learning and teaching in books, articles and/or papers in academic journals
* Communicate material of a specialist or highly technical nature within the practitioner’s field
* Attend and contribute to subject group meetings
* Identify student learning needs and provide appropriate teaching to meet requirements
* Liaise with colleagues and students to build internal contacts and participate in networks; join external networks to share information and ideas
* Supervise students’ projects, fieldwork and placements as required
* Develop teaching materials, methods and approaches; plan and manage teaching, scholarship and administrative tasks
* Provide appropriate assessment and supervision of student work with constructive feedback, supported by senior staff
* Use listening, interpersonal and pastoral care skills to support students and act as a personal tutor where appropriate
* Teach as part of a teaching team in a developing capacity within established programmes and settings
* Reflect on practice and the development of teaching and learning skills
* Maintain breadth/depth of specialist knowledge to contribute to established teaching programmes
* Provide support to new team members
* Support clinical skills tutors with mandatory skills delivery to all student groups as required
* Undertake other duties as assigned by the line manager commensurate with the role
* Engage in university-wide projects and initiatives as directed and undertake any additional duties as assigned
* Demonstrate flexibility to support colleagues during high-demand periods, including attendance at open days and graduation ceremonies; weekend work may be required

Essential
1. Registered Nurse with the UK Nursing and Midwifery Council (Adult field)
2. Nursing degree
3. Evidence of continued professional development
4. Extensive clinical experience as a Registered Nurse
5. Current experience within a clinical or simulation setting
6. Experience of teaching, supervising and assessing healthcare students in clinical and education settings
7. Clinical expertise in their field
8. In-depth knowledge of the new NMC standards for pre-registration education
9. Understanding of the Once for Wales 2020 core curriculum and documentation
10. Knowledge of different teaching and learning methods in healthcare
11. Advanced communication and excellent presentation and teaching/facilitation skills
12. Coaching skills
13. Current UK driving licence and willingness to travel
14. Oral and Written Welsh Level A0
An ability to understand the bilingual nature of the University and awareness of bilingually supportive procedures.
Desirable
