Main Purpose of the Role
To assist in the daily operations of the kitchen by supporting chefs and kitchen staff in cleaning, food preparation, and cooking tasks while maintaining hygiene and food safety standards in line with UK legislation.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
1. Cleaning & Hygiene
Maintain cleanliness of kitchen areas including floors, walls, surfaces, equipment, utensils, and storage areas.
Regularly clean food preparation and storage equipment such as ovens, hobs, grills, fridges, and freezers.
Dispose of waste in line with company procedures and local authority regulations.
Comply with daily and weekly cleaning schedules.
Follow COSHH regulations when using cleaning materials.
Ensure all cleaning records are completed accurately.
1. Food Preparation
Wash, peel, chop, and prepare vegetables, fruits, meats, and other ingredients as directed by senior kitchen staff.
Assist in basic food preparation tasks such as portioning, marinating, mixing, and assembling ingredients.
Ensure proper storage and labelling of all ingredients in accordance with food safety regulations.
1. Cooking Support
Assist chefs with cooking tasks such as preparing doughs, parottas, chutneys, curries, and snacks under supervision.
Reheat, plate, and serve items in accordance with company quality and presentation standards.
Ensure all food is handled in accordance with HACCP and Food Safety Act 1990 guidelines.
1. Stock and Deliveries
Assist in checking, receiving, and storing deliveries.
Rotate stock to ensure first-in-first-out (FIFO) usage and report low stock levels.
Ensure dry store, cold store, and freezer areas are well organized and labelled.
1. Health & Safety
Adhere to all food hygiene, health & safety, and allergen control procedures.
Report any equipment faults, hazards, or incidents immediately to a supervisor.
Wear appropriate PPE and maintain personal hygiene standards as required by the Food Standards Agency and workplace policy.
1. Teamwork and Communication
Work collaboratively with chefs and front-of-house staff to ensure smooth kitchen operation.
Support cover for staff absences, peak business periods, and special events as needed.
Attend training sessions and staff meetings as required.
Mandatory Legal Compliance
1. Food Safety & Hygiene: Compliance with Food Safety Act 1990, Regulation (EC) No 852/2004, and any updated UK food legislation.
2. Health & Safety: Adherence to Health and Safety at Work Act 1974 and workplace risk assessments.
3. Right to Work: Must maintain valid right to work documentation (visa, passport, etc.).
4. Data Protection: Ensure confidentiality of all company and customer information under the UK GDPR and Data Protection Act 2018.

Pay: £12.21-£18.29 per hour
