Position Description
Position Summary
This position is responsible to identify, qualify, and solicit major gift prospects and to steward a specific portfolio of major gift prospects in order to secure immediate and long-term gift revenue required by the institution.
Education Required
Bachelor’s Degree
Education Preferred Experience Required
1-3 years sales or fundraising or equivalent

* Demonstrate ability to secure visits with prospects
* Demonstrate ability to secure major gifts
* Excellent verbal and written communication skills; listening skills
* Ability to work with a wide range of personalities and relationships; sound judgment
* Self-motivated; ability to handle multiple tasks with organization and flexibility
* Excellent planning and organizational skills
* Ability to maintain strict confidentiality
Special Working Conditions
Must be willing to travel; some work on evenings and weekends is required, especially for special events.
Driving Requirements
This position requires the operation of a Messiah University owned or leased vehicle and the employee must possess and maintain a current driver’s license, meet the established criteria, and abide by all policies and procedures as presented in the University’s Fleet Vehicle Use Policy.
Essential Employee N/A Primary Duties
* Identify, qualify, solicit, and steward a specific portfolio of Annual Fund and Major gift prospects (alumni, parents, and friends).
* Successfully solicit a portfolio of donors for Annual Fund and Major gifts.
* Demonstrate an understanding of charitable giving techniques and their tax implications.
* Identify prospects in portfolio that merit referral to the senior leadership fundraising team.
* Represent Messiah University to a variety of constituencies, groups, and individuals for the purpose of introducing Messiah University.
* Manage the budget for this position.
* Ensure that an institutional record of key contacts/conversations/communication is properly documented.
* Maintain consistent and reliable attendance.
* Specific and measurable goals will be established with supervisor.
* Keep current on charitable giving techniques and their tax implications.

* Attend the meetings of Development and Advancement Division staff as required.
