Job Description
This role is primarily remote with occasional travel to our UK and international offices.
As a Junior Systems Engineer, you will work as part of an established Support team, overseen by a Team Lead and Technical Lead. Your responsibility is to provide exceptional customer service and support to our ever-expanding customer base of UK and International emergency response providers. You will use your knowledge of the practices of software engineering and develop an understanding of customer environments and their ways of working. You will work alongside Business Analysts and your technical leads to develop a deep understanding of the customer, the product, and the tech stack to be able to resolve customers issues in a quick a decisive manner and contribute features and functionality requests for the developers and test team.
You will succeed in this role if you are a person who wants to work on products that genuinely make a difference to people’s lives. You don’t necessarily need experience in Integrated Command and Control Systems, but you must have transferable key skills, including strong communications, confidence in making decisions day to day and a desire to continually develop your skills. The most important success indicators are pride in your work and an interest in diving deep into complicated problems.
The responsibilities associated with the Junior Systems Engineer role include, but are not limited to:
1. Undertakes routine installations and de-installations of items of hardware and/or software.
2. Takes action to ensure targets are met within established safety and quality procedures, including, where appropriate, handover to the client.
3. Conducts tests of hardware and/or software using supplied test procedures and diagnostic tools.
4. Corrects malfunctions, calling on other experienced colleagues and external resources if required.
5. Documents details of all hardware/software items that have been installed and removed.
6. Initiates and monitors actions to investigate and resolve problems in systems and services. Assists with the implementation of agreed remedies and preventative measures.
7. Specifies user/system interfaces and translates logical designs into physical designs taking account of target environment, performance requirements and existing systems. Produces detailed designs and documents all work using required standards, methods and tools, including prototyping tools where appropriate.
8. Escalation Point for 3rd line support out of working hours on a call rota of one in every three weeks
Basic Requirements
Typical tasks in this role will include:
9. Capture and define customer problems, including business process analysis, technical analysis, etc.
10. Work closely with the development teams to ensure the delivery of valuable product increments.
11. Collaborate with the CAD and ICCS leads to drive Continual Service Improvement and ensure Service Governance Models are current.
12. Collaborate with engineering, product management, UX, and other Motorola teams.
13. Communicate progress and risks to stakeholders.
14. Participate in and engineering guilds and contribute on aspects of the ITIL methodologies.
Skills & competencies:
The Junior Systems Engineer should meet the baseline requirements listed in the following profile:
15. Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
16. Experience or knowledge working within an ITIL oriented environment.
17. Fundamental knowledge of network principles, WAN technologies and routing.
18. Fundamental Knowledge of Microsoft Server Family including core servers.
19. Experience/support of Microsoft Server High availability always on clustering, IIS (web hosting), Application Request Routing, files shares.
20. Experience/support of Microsoft SQL.
21. Experience with SIP technologies.
22. Experience/support Azure.
23. Desirable exposure with Web Map Services.
24. Desirable exposure with REST API interfaces.
25. Desirable customer facing experience.
26. Ability to attain NPPV3 and SC clearance. Must be a resident of the UK for a minimum of 5 years to obtain.
