Main duties of the job

Work as an important member of the Multidisciplinary Team within Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust providing specialist nursing advice and support to patients and their family, throughout the care pathway.

The post holder will utilise skills of clinical expertise, education, and management to ensure a seamless service for patients, carers, and staff providing advice, support, and information.

The post holder will coordinate and support timely progression of patients through diagnostics, treatment, and follow‑up in line with national cancer waiting time targets, actively monitoring and managing the Patient Tracking List (PTL) to help ensure compliance.

The post holder will work closely with the multidisciplinary team to facilitate efficient, safe pathways of care, deliver holistic needs assessments, symptom management and patient education, and provides ongoing support and advocacy for patients and families while contributing to service improvement and quality outcomes.

The post holder will engage and lead discussions in multidisciplinary team meetings and ensure a high quality, holistic approach to the management of the patient’s pathway is maintained.

This vacancy is advertised on a fixed term contract basis for a period of a maximum of twelve months due to maternity leave of the substantive post holder. The fixed term contract status of the post holder will be reviewed in accordance with the Trust's legal obligations regarding fixed term contracts and statutory maternity provisions.

Please note all existing NHS staff will only be considered on a secondment basis. This must first be agreed with your current line manager.

Education and Qualifications

Essential criteria

1. RGN Level one
2. NMC registered
3. To have completed the national practice assessor training or equivalent teaching and assessing qualification for those with ENB998.
4. Continuous professional development
5. First degree or evidence of working towards one (demonstrating graduate attributes)

Experience

Essential criteria

6. Extensive post registration experience within surgery, oncology and / or Upper GI cancer
7. Experience of leading, motivating and developing a professional team

Skills and Knowledge

Essential criteria

8. Specialist training relevant to role
9. Ability to communicate effectively including active listening, writing, and verbally, with individuals on a one-to-one basis and with groups.
