Surrey Police’s Sexual Offences Investigation Team (SOIT) is a specialist department responsible for investigating serious sexual offences including Category 1 Stranger Rape. The team fosters a friendly and enthusiastic working environment.
SOIT offers agile working opportunities, high staff morale, and commitment to professional development. We are recruiting a detective constable to join our team at Surrey Police Headquarters in Guildford.
Interested candidates can arrange to visit the team to learn more about SOIT. This role provides an exciting opportunity to lead sexual offence investigations across Surrey.
The shift pattern includes early and late turns from 0700-2200hrs, with a rota that allows working only one weekend in three, and no late into early shifts. The team includes Detective Constables, Sexual Offence Liaison Officers, and Investigation Officers.
The role is open to substantive Detective Constables and those nearing completion of their PIP 2 portfolio.
We collaborate with partners to reduce sexual offences and improve conviction rates. We offer specialist training and ongoing professional development.

The Role and Key Responsibilities
* Investigate rape and serious sexual offences.
* Manage RASSO caseloads effectively.
* Conduct risk assessments and safeguarding strategies.
* Interview witnesses and suspects, obtaining evidence via statements or video.
* Work with support services and partner agencies for safeguarding.
* Collaborate with medical, forensic, and digital specialists.
* Provide exceptional victim care with empathy and ethics.
* Build clear evidential case files.
* Apply disclosure procedures per CPIA and guidelines.
* Participate in case conferences with CPS to ensure best practices.
Skills & Experience
* Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills.
* Excellent organization and time management.
* Effective communication with tact and sensitivity.
* Ability to handle traumatic incidents professionally.
* Awareness of current legislation and procedures related to sexual offences.
* Flexibility to work across Surrey and occasionally out of force, including unsocial hours.
