The Role
Reporting into site management, you will oversee the day‑to‑day running of the non‑ferrous metals department, ensuring a smooth and continuous flow of materials through the plant. This position blends practical, on‑the‑ground duties with team leadership, compliance and performance management.
Key Responsibilities
* Lead and supervise the non‑ferrous team on a daily basis
* Allocate labour effectively to meet production and operational targets
* Ensure all pre‑start checks are completed across plant and machinery
* Oversee routine maintenance activities including cleaning and upkeep
* Sort and process materials in line with strict quality standards
* Operate plant and machinery where required (including mobile plant)
* Promote and maintain high standards of health, safety and housekeeping
* Ensure full compliance with PPE, SOPs and environmental regulations
* Monitor stock levels of consumables to minimise downtime
* Support wider site operations and continuous improvement initiatives
About You
* Proven experience in a supervisory or team leadership role
* Strong organisational and workload prioritisation skills
* Background in waste, recycling, metals or heavy industry
* Solid knowledge of non‑ferrous materials
* Confident communicator with the ability to motivate and lead a team
* Practical experience with plant and machinery is advantageous
* Strong awareness of health & safety and environmental standards
