We are looking to recruit a motivated Consultant in Acute Medicine to join colleagues in a dynamic general medicine service within the Health Board in delivering and supporting the Welsh Government's vision for NHS Wales. This new appointment will join the team of established medical consultants working across Pembrokeshire and will have support to develop/maintain a specialist interest.
Main duties of the job
The successful candidate will be expected to have specialty training and relevant experience in General Medicine. You would work in the General Medical Department and in an area of specialist interest if appropriate. You will be responsible for the management of patients presenting to Withybush General Hospital with medical problems and will lead a team of junior doctors.
Within this role there is an opportunity for consultants with a specialist interest and additional skills to promote and develop the service in order to improve diagnosis and management.
In this post you will contribute to a current on call rota at Withybush based on a 1:12 non-resident on call, which you will be expected to reside (for on call purposes) within 30 minutes of the Hospital.

Job responsibilities
The successful candidate for this Consultant post will be eligible to hold an Honorary Academic title at a partner university on the understanding that they will participate in undergraduate teaching, including acting as an examiner, and support and facilitate research activities in an appropriate university faculty and school. They will take direction in these activities via the appropriate academic lead. The agreement to define the Honorary Academic responsibilities and associated programmed activities in relation to teaching time and research will be negotiated jointly between the post holder, the university and the Health Board. It will form part of the successful candidates job plan. The award of the Honorary Academic contract will be dependent upon a formal application being submitted to the university in accordance with the Honorary Appointments procedures and will be available on a fixed term basis subject to satisfactory performance in the academic activity undertaken.
