Senior CAD Technician – Civils & Rail Projects
The Opportunity
I’m working with a well-established civil engineering contractor who are expanding their in-house Civils & Structures Design team. They’re looking for a Senior CAD Technician with strong rail or civil engineering project experience to play a lead role within their busy design function.
This is a fantastic opportunity to join a business delivering frameworks and major infrastructure projects across Scotland – including bridges, stations, tunnels, access-for-all schemes, and asset management contracts.
The Role
As a Senior CAD Technician, you’ll take the lead in producing high-quality technical drawings and 3D models, while supporting and mentoring junior CAD staff. You’ll be working closely with designers, engineers, and project delivery teams to bring complex civil and rail projects to life.
Your responsibilities will include:
* Producing accurate technical drawings and 3D models using Bentley and Autodesk CAD software.
* Applying BIM principles within a Common Data Environment (CDE).
* Ensuring all drawings meet industry standards, specifications, and CDM regulations.
* Collaborating with designers and project teams to resolve technical challenges.
* Supporting with site inspections and surveys to inform design development.
* Mentoring junior CAD technicians and promoting best practice in the team.
About You
* HND (or equivalent) in Civil Engineering or related qualification.
* 5+ years’ experience in civil engineering, rail, or related infrastructure projects.
* Strong CAD skills with Bentley and Autodesk software.
* Knowledge of BIM processes and digital project delivery.
* Experience in bridges, earthworks, drainage, or highways projects.
* Good communication, spatial awareness, and problem-solving ability.
* Progressing toward professional membership (e.g. EngTech).
