Cerne Abbas CE VC First School is seeking to appoint a Childcare Assistant for their Early Years Foundation Stage classes. The successful applicant will offer guidance and support with the teaching of Pre-school (aged 3-4) and Reception aged children under supervision of the Early Years Lead and Early Years Key Worker.
The post is for 26.75 hours per week: Monday morning (8.30am to 12.15pm) and 4 full days a week; Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday (8.30am to 12.15pm and 1.15pm – 3.15 pm).
The successful applicant would preferably hold a suitable qualification in Childcare and /or have relevant experience of working with children. We hope this position will become permanent on end of fixed term.
The successful applicant will:
1. Carry out planned activities under the guidance, direction and supervision of the Early Years Key Worker and Early Years Lead.
2. Establish positive relationships with the children in the setting and understand their individual interests, dispositions and learning needs.
3. Support and facilitate children’s learning through play.
4. Share responsibility for the care, presentation, display, safety, organisation and appearance of indoor and outdoor learning environments.
5. Support with preparation of activities and resources needed for learning sessions.
6. Establish good working relationships with school staff and become a valued member of the wider school team.
7. Keep appropriate records in keeping with school policy.
8. Support the Christian ethos and vision of our caring school

This post is exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (ROA) 1974. Keeping Children Safe in Education
The school will conduct online searches of shortlisted candidates. This check will be part of a safeguarding check, and the search will purely be based on whether an individual is suitable to work with children. All aspects of social media and internet searches will be conducted. As care must be taken to avoid unconscious bias and any risk of discrimination, a person who will not on the appointment panel will conduct the searches and will only share information if and when findings are relevant and of concern.
