Band 8A | 1.0 WTE | 37 Hours | Fixed Term (12 months)

£62,681- £67,665

(including weekend, late night and public holiday rota commitments)

We are delighted to advertise a 12 month secondment in the unique, dynamic environment of prison services and police custody healthcare. If you are an experienced pharmacist with a passion for service development and a track record of delivering results, this role offers an exciting opportunity to lead transformative change across hospital pharmacy services in Lothian. Furthermore, this role offers a unique opportunity to gain experience in service development and medicine governance scenarios that can complement and enhance your current skillset.

About the Role

This is your opportunity to be responsible for the pharmacy input of healthcare in both HMP Edinburgh, HMP Addiewell and police custody, while contributing to tackling health inequalities amongst the residents of these services; some of the most vulnerable people in our communities.

In this role, you will:

1. Support the pharmaceutical care of this group, including medicines reconciliation at transitions of care, long term condition management, high risk medication monitoring and polypharmacy review.
2. Lead a programme of effective medicines management and medicines governance.
3. Collaborate with senior healthcare staff across disciplines to ensure safe, effective, and person-centred care.
4. Deliver specialist education and training across disciplines.
5. Contribute to service development and innovation across NHS Lothians prisons and police custody services.

About You

To excel in this role, you will need:

Essential Qualifications and Competencies

11. A Master of Pharmacy Degree (or equivalent).
12. Registration with the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC).
13. An Independent Prescribing Qualification.
14. Candidates who have not completed a Postgraduate Clinical Pharmacy Diploma or MSc in Clinical Pharmacy must demonstrate substantial progress across the four pillars of the RPS Core Advanced Pharmacist Curriculum through:Engagement with the RPS Core Advanced CurriculumActive participation in a community of practice/peer networkSubmit a screenshot of portfolio (programme of learning page)Complete the RPS learning needs analysis tool to assess progress with the Core Advanced Curriculum and any gaps that will need addressed as part of PDP plans
15. Candidates who have completed a Postgraduate Clinical Pharmacy Diploma or MSc in Clinical Pharmacy should complete the learning needs analysis (LNA) using the LNA tool in the RPS e-portfolio, identifying any gaps that will need addressed as part of PDP plans.

Experience and Knowledge

16. Proven expertise in service development, including the design and implementation of healthcare initiatives.
17. A strong background in training and education, with experience delivering impactful sessions for healthcare professionals
18. Excellent communication and problem-solving skills, enabling effective decision-making.
