The Asian Women’s Resource Centre (AWRC) is a feminist organization whose values are founded on commitments to human rights, anti-discrimination and freedom from oppression. We endorse global evidence that violence against women, domestic abuse and sexual violence is gendered, a cause and consequence of the unequal position of women and girls in society, a violation of human rights, and is entirely preventable.
Position:
This is a new role and exciting role within the AWRC, the postholder will lead policy development on some of the key issues facing BME survivors of domestic abuse, harmful practices and their children, no recourse to public funds, Criminal Justice system and the current cost of living crisis and welfare reform.
Hours of Work 35 hours per week
Salary £33,000 per annum
Length of Contract until 31st March 2026 subject to extension
Accountable to Director
Location of work London office/Hybrid working - 2 days a week from office rest from home
Requirements:
We are seeking a dynamic and committed Policy Engagement Officer who can bring strategic thinking, strong policy expertise, and a passion for social justice. The ideal candidate will have:
* Proven experience in leading policy development and delivering evidence-based, influential policy positions.
* Excellent communication and analytical skills, with the ability to interpret complex information and write clearly for diverse audiences.
* Experience influencing policy change through stakeholder engagement, including with politicians, civil servants, and partner organisations.
* Knowledge of key policy areas affecting Black and Minoritized Ethnic (BME) survivors of domestic abuse, harmful practices, and wider Violence Against Women and Girls (VAWG) issues.
* Understanding of AWRC’s values, feminist principles, and the by-and-for model of specialist services.
* Commitment to anti-discriminatory practice, equal opportunities, and survivor-centred approaches to policy.
* Ability to work independently and flexibly, including occasional travel and working unsocial hours.
Desirable attributes include:
* Experience involving people with lived experience in policy development.
* Skills in quantitative data analysis.
* Knowledge of the family justice system and the experiences of survivors in court settings.
