Job Summary

Whittaker Lane Medical Centre, Prestwich

Due to partnership changes, a salaried GP opportunity has arisen to join our dynamic team. We are a long established practice in Prestwich, seeking a friendly GP with a desire to engage, motivate and innovate. This is a part-time vacancy covering 4 sessions per week (Monday 2 sessions, Tuesday 2 sessions).

We are a busy but friendly and supportive practice with team building activities and social events, while maintaining high clinical standards in a rapidly changing NHS environment.

Main Duties

The ideal candidate should have high clinical standards in all areas of General Practice and be proactive in developing the practice while moving into the Primary Care Network pathway. The role requires being organised, flexible, a team player with good communication skills and a good sense of humour. ST2 and ST3 training would be desirable but not essential, as training could be provided.

Job Description and Responsibilities

Fixed Term Salaried General Practitioner. Responsible to: The Partners (clinically); The Manager (administratively).

Contribution to the implementation of services includes applying practice policies, standards and guidance; discussing with the team how these policies affect work; participating in audits; and working to achieve quality standards (e.g., QOF/GM) and budgets without compromising patient care.


Clinical Responsibilities

* Undertake a variety of duties including surgery consultations, telephone consultations and queries, home visits, issuing and signing repeat prescriptions, and handling paperwork and correspondence in a timely fashion.
* Make professionally autonomous clinical decisions for presenting problems.
* Manage patients with undifferentiated problems; assess health care needs.
* Screen for disease risk factors and early signs of illness.
* Develop care plans in consultation with patients in line with practice protocols.
* Provide counselling and health education.
* Prescribe in line with formulary when clinically appropriate.
* Admit/discharge patients to/from caseload and refer as needed.
* Support trainers and provide clinical supervision to training doctors.
* Comply with practice policy and guidelines (e.g., Child Protection, confidentiality).
* Commit to lifelong learning, audits and evidence-based practice.
* Maintain GMC registration and comply with GP appraisal; ensure MDO coverage and inclusion on local performers list.


Other Responsibilities Within the Practice

* Consult with patients in the surgery and during home visits; be available for on-call duties as needed.
* Contribute to evaluation, audit and clinical standard setting with colleagues.
* Maintain clear IT-based consultation records; collect data for audits.
* Issue computer-generated prescriptions; avoid handwritten prescriptions when possible.
* Contribute to policy development and attendance at training and practice meetings.
* Meet audit deadlines and quality standards to secure funding (e.g., QOF).
* Maintain GMC registration and practice-based professional standards.
