Careers Advisor Prison‑Based CIAG | Purposeful Work | Structured Environment

Help people build a realistic path to work after custody.

At Get Set UK, we deliver Careers Information, Advice and Guidance inside prison settings. We help individuals prepare for release with practical plans for work, training and progression.

This is meaningful work. It is delivered within a secure and structured environment. It suits someone calm, professional and comfortable working within clear routines and procedures.

If you value purpose, clarity and consistency, this role could be right for you.

What You Will Do

* Deliver one‑to‑one careers guidance sessions
* Run structured workshops on CV writing, interview skills and job search
* Help individuals set realistic goals and action plans
* Identify skills gaps and suitable training routes
* Record activity accurately and maintain compliance standards
* Work closely with prison staff and external partners

You will offer encouragement. You will also set clear expectations and maintain professional boundaries.

The Environment

You will work inside a secure prison setting. Prisons operate on strict routines. Entry and exit are controlled. Personal items are restricted. When you are on site, you are focused fully on your role. This is not a flexible environment. It is organised and disciplined. Many people find the structure purposeful and rewarding.

Enhanced prison vetting and security clearance are required. Employment is subject to successful clearance. Before applying, please consider whether you feel comfortable working within a secure custodial environment.

What Makes Someone Successful Here

* Remain calm in structured settings
* Communicate clearly and confidently
* Follow procedures carefully
* Take ownership of your caseload
* Keep accurate and timely records
* Manage challenging conversations professionally
* Respect safeguarding and confidentiality at all times

This role requires maturity, steady judgement and consistency. For the right person, it is deeply rewarding. You will see individuals gain clarity, confidence and a credible plan for their future.

What You Will Bring

* Experience delivering one‑to‑one guidance or group sessions
* Confidence using IT systems to record activity
* Understanding of safeguarding and compliance
* Ability to manage difficult conversations professionally
* Ideally Level 3 or above in Careers Information, Advice and Guidance, or willingness to work towards it

We recognise that people come from different backgrounds. If you meet most of the criteria and feel motivated by the purpose of this role, we encourage you to apply.

A Day in the Role

Your day begins with clearing security and preparing for scheduled sessions. You may meet someone exploring job options after release. Together, you review skills, barriers and next steps. Later, you might deliver a workshop on interview preparation or workplace expectations. Throughout the day, you update records, liaise with prison staff and maintain professional boundaries. Planning and consistency are essential. Structure is part of the role.
