Job Title: Apprentice Electrical Installations Technician (Level 2) - School of Sustainable Technology & Motor VehicleSalary: Apprenticeship Rates - Dependent on ageClosing Date: 2026-02-09About the RoleThis is a 12 month apprenticeship. Apprenticeship rates for this post are dependent on age. Please see below for the current rates: Level 2 Apprenticeship Rates: Under 18 years - £14,874 per annum18-20 years - £19,600 per annum21+ years - £23,555 per annumLeeds City College are recruiting for an Apprentice Technician of Electrical Installation to join our Sustainable Technologies & Motor Vehicle team.This Level 2 apprenticeship provides a pathway into a technical career, giving you the opportunity to gain practical skills, recognised qualifications, and contribute to the success of both learners and the department.As an Apprentice Technician, you will develop the skills and knowledge needed to become an outstanding workshop technician. Working alongside experienced staff, you will gain hands-on experience in supporting teaching, maintaining facilities, and ensuring a safe learning environment.Throughout your apprenticeship, you will learn to:Prepare, maintain, and develop workshop facilities and equipment to a high standard.Ensure compliance with Health and Safety legislation, including COSHH regulations.Order and manage consumables, tools, and equipment for the curriculum area.Support staff and students by preparing teaching spaces and demonstrating equipment.Facilitate small groups of learners in workshops and independent learning sessions.Keep up to date with new technologies and apply these in the workshop.What You Will DoHelp prepare and maintain workshop spaces, tools, and equipment.Support staff and students during practical sessions, ensuring a safe learning environment.Learn to manage stock, order materials, and keep the workshop organised.Gain hands-on experience in maintaining and checking machinery and tools.Keep up to date with new technologies and equipment used in the industry.Develop your skills by facilitating small groups of learners under supervision.Work towards your apprenticeship qualification, completing 20% off-the-job training.Uphold Health & Safety, safeguarding, and college policies at all times.About YouWorking towards a Level 2 Customer Service qualification (Essential)Willing to complete a COSHH qualification as part of the apprenticeship (Essential)A relevant vocational qualification in your subject area, at least Level 3 (Essential)English, maths, and Electrical Installation at Level 2 (or achieved before completion of the apprenticeship) (Essential)Up-to-date subject knowledge in your specialist area (e.g. Electrical Installation) and awareness of workplace practices (Essential)Strong verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills (Essential)Ability to follow direction and respond positively to feedback to support your development (Essential)Excellent organisational skills with the ability to meet deadlines (Essential)Adaptability and flexibility to meet different learner needsIT skills, including Microsoft Office and Google platformsBenefitsThe group offers a range of excellent benefits, including:Annual leave: Curriculum and Management: 44 days plus bank holidaysCurriculum support and business support: 39 days plus bank holidaysPension schemes with generous employer contributions:Teachers’ Pension SchemeLocal Government Pension SchemePeople’s Pension SchemeCPD opportunities:Annual staff conference plus 2 additional staff development days.Qualifications including PGCE, Apprenticeships, Leadership and Management courses.Employee wellbeing initiatives: Family Friendly Policies, discounted onsite spa (Printworks) and gym (Park Lane).Travel and commuting: Discounted travel available through Metro card, Northern Rail, First Bus, Arriva Bus and Cycle to work schemes.Flexible and hybrid working opportunities: Please speak to the recruiting manager regarding flexible opportunities as these differ between roles.About UsLeeds City College is one of the largest further education institutions in the country and is one of the biggest providers of apprenticeships regionally.We provide a vibrant and diverse learning environment, delivering excellent and innovative education which is supportive, inspiring and life changing.
