About the Role
Architectural Metal, Glass & External Envelope Solutions
We are recruiting for an experienced Senior Designer to support increasing design workload within architectural metalwork, glass, and external envelope systems. This is a full-time role with hybrid working available, offering a balance between office-based collaboration and home working.
The Senior Designer will take full ownership of design packages, producing highly detailed and accurate technical drawings while ensuring design intent is carried through from concept to manufacture and site installation. The role requires close collaboration with clients, project teams, and installation teams to deliver safe, compliant, and buildable solutions.
Key Responsibilities
Design & Technical Delivery
Lead the design development and coordination of architectural metal and glass systems, including:
Balustrades and guarding
Balconies (including prefabricated systems)
Staircases and access structures
External flooring and decking systems
Bespoke architectural metalwork
Produce detailed technical, construction, and fabrication drawings
Maintain design intent through all project stages, from concept to installation
Collaboration & Coordination
Work closely with clients during pre-construction and live project stages
Coordinate with project management, fabrication, and installation teams
Attend design meetings, technical workshops, and site visits as required
Risk, Compliance & Quality
Identify, assess, and manage design and installation risks
Propose innovative, practical, and buildable design solutions
Ensure compliance with:
UK Building Regulations
Fire safety and remediation requirements
Relevant British Standards and industry guidance
Support technical submissions, RFIs, and design reviews
Continuous Improvement
Contribute to the development and improvement of design standards, processes, and best practice
Qualifications & Experience
Essential
Proven experience in a Senior Designer role within architectural metalwork, glass, or façade-related disciplines
Proficiency in 2D and 3D design software
Strong understanding of safety standards, regulatory compliance, and fire remediation
Demonstrable knowledge of:
Balustrades, balconies, staircases, and external flooring systems
Installation processes, sequencing, and tolerances
Strong communication and collaboration skills
Ability to manage complex design challenges and deliver compliant, high-quality solutions
Desirable
Degree in Architecture, Engineering, Design, or a related discipline
Experience working across full project lifecycles, from early design through to site installation
