INTERIM MAINTENANCE EXPERT/MANAGER (PLC & Robotics) Location: Belfast, Northern Ireland Duration: 3–6 Months (Interim Contract) Industry: Automotive – Die Casting Start Date: Immediate/ASAP Working Hours: Full-time, On-site We are seeking an experienced Interim Maintenance Expert/Manager to support a high-volume die casting automotive facility in Belfast. This is a hands-on, operational role requiring strong technical expertise in PLC systems, industrial robotics, and automated equipment maintenance. The successful candidate will thrive in a physically demanding, fast-paced environment, especially during peak summer months. Responsibilities: Lead and support the maintenance team in reactive and preventative maintenance tasks across production equipment. Diagnose and resolve faults related to PLC-controlled machinery, robotics, hydraulic and pneumatic systems. Minimise downtime and ensure equipment reliability to meet production targets. Work closely with production and engineering teams to implement technical improvements. Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities and support audit compliance. Provide leadership during breakdowns, working under pressure and prioritising safety. Evaluate existing maintenance procedures and recommend improvements to maximise operational efficiency. Support and mentor junior maintenance staff when required. Experience/Qualifications: Proven maintenance management or expert-level experience in a high-volume automotive or industrial environment. Hands-on experience with Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs), robotics, and casting equipment. Strong understanding of die casting processes and mechanical/electrical systems. Able to lead and work independently in a physically demanding setting – must have a high level of physical fitness suitable for long days in hot conditions. Excellent fault-finding, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills. Strong communication and organisational skills. Preferred Qualifications: HNC/HND or equivalent in Electrical/Mechanical Engineering. IOSH or other health & safety certification is desirable. Prior experience in automotive Tier 1/Tier 2 environments is a plus.
