Are you an experienced Financial Controller looking for a new challenge within a dynamic and forward-thinking local authority? West Berkshire Council is seeking a Senior Financial Controller to join our Finance and Property Service, reporting to the Acting Head of Finance & Property. This is a fantastic opportunity to play a key role in the financial management of our organisation and contribute to the delivery of high-quality services to our local community.
As the Senior Financial Controller, you will be responsible for:
1. Leading and managing the Financial Control team, ensuring the accurate and timely production of financial information
2. Overseeing the Council's financial systems and processes, driving continuous improvement and efficiency
3. Providing expert financial advice and guidance to senior managers and budget holders
4. Monitoring and reporting on the Council's financial performance, identifying risks and opportunities
5. Contributing to the development and implementation of financial strategies and policies
To excel in this role, you should have:
6. A professional accountancy qualification (CCAB or equivalent)
7. Extensive experience in financial management, ideally within a public sector or local authority setting
8. Strong leadership and people management skills, with the ability to motivate and develop a team
9. Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities, with a keen eye for detail
10. Sound knowledge of financial regulations, accounting standards, and budgetary control
