We are fortunate to be located in a pretty market town which has low cost of living, and in a great area. The stunning city of Lincoln is a 20‑minute drive away. Also just a 20‑minute drive away is Grantham, from where you can get a train to London taking only an hour and 10 minutes. We are surrounded by lovely countryside, but with easy access to towns and cities with fabulous bars, restaurants and cafes. We are only an hour and a half from East Midlands Airport. Within this role you will be based at Sleaford, with possible holiday / sickness cover at Grantham.
Practice
Our practice is an amazing place to work, with an extremely experienced, close‑knit team. We see a wide variety of cases and have a great surgical/consultation split. We have weekly practice meetings where we share news, and everybody has an opportunity to share best practice and raise any concerns they may have. We also have regular vet‑only, nurse‑only and reception‑only meetings. Our nursing team is second‑to‑none.
We have 9 vets in total and 8 nurses, plus two student nurses and a VCA, as well as a wonderful support and administrative team. Our Clinical Director has a cardiology certificate and an advanced surgery certificate and one of our other vets has an opthalmology certificate. We actively encourage all our vets to follow areas of interest.
We have a great range of equipment and facilities including 4 consulting rooms, 2 theatres, dental x‑ray and a nurse consulting room.
Work Schedule
You will work 42 hours per week which will be split over 4 days per week. We are open between 0730 and 1900 Monday to Friday and 0800 to 1400 on Saturdays. Full time vets work four 10.5‑hour shifts a week between these times, with approximately 1 in 5 Saturdays (but not until you are ready and confident).
Graduates are given every support to work at their own pace. There are no expectations of sole charge until you are completely comfortable doing so, and even then, there is always back‑up available. We provide a structured mentor process and have previously had 4 graduates on the academy, all of whom stayed with us, with the exception of one who had always planned to stay for 2 years and then travel. Days contain built‑in structured breaks and there is set‑aside time for CPD.
